I'm sitting on a pile of money!!!, by Yessir on Mar 17, 2007 7:05:47 GMT 1, Hello all...
I'm sitting on a pile of money, which gets higher and higher every month. I should be really happy with this, but I'm NOT.
I thought 2007 was going to be a year of fireworks, on the art scene, but to me its been a complete anti-climax so far. Rumour and speculation and counter-speculation about new print release dates and what do we get black Mona Lisa!!! by Nick Walker or flags by Dface, sorry I mean skulls by Dface.
I was depressed even further by a new print by Elbow-toe, Poppy Medusa on Black Rat Press, these three prints I mention are three from many that I could highlight, of increasingly unsuitable art ( would you put any of these prints on your living room wall?), being churned out and amazingly in many cases selling out in minutes/hours.
I think POW should release the LA prints, because when Nick Walker can sell out the black Mona Lisa and Faile, who lets be honest have not changed their format and were quite lightly regarded by most last year (faile prints went weeks without selling out), but this year (Faile prints sell out within minutes). I just think its a sign of people losing their minds sitting, waiting , hoping and praying for those remaining LA prints.
The last prints I purchased were by Titi Freak Wires, Dog , Betty page and Face. These were the last innovative, original and interesting prints I have seen. This was in DEC 06, which was fruitful for me In terms of buying art (21 pieces). This year my art buying count is ZERO!!!.
I think that thus far in 2007 most artist have been lacking in three areas output of work, quality and substance, but worst of all some of the lazy and to be honest hideous prints that are coming out are actually selling out!!!.

I'm sitting on a pile of money!!!, by slowmo on Mar 17, 2007 9:07:05 GMT 1, Don't take this the wrong way, as I dont know your tastes, I don't think you're looking hard enough. There have been some great prints and original works released this year, although admittedly they may not have been your cup of tea.
If you really are sitting on a pile of cash you could have three new Micallef prints in an edition of 50, three new Adam Neate prints, an artist who has never been available as a print before. Titifreak originals have been available from New York. If you had gone to the Eleven show you could have picked up some great work from Judith Supine, Swoon, Elbowtoe, Shep Fairey etc. Blek Le Rat has had 2 new prints, and canvasses for sale.
There have been numerous art fairs this year, showcasing lots of talent with new art for sale, Dan Baldwin has released new prints and canvasses. Andrew McAttee has been busy. Nick Walker has had some amazing stuff on his website. I have been really blown away by Julie Cockburn's new work but realise its a long way from the sort of work generally appreciated by people on this site, if you fancy a look go to www.jaggedart.com. (I'm leaving Faile out of this, but think they have brought out tonnes of great material in 07)
I guess the question is how big a pile of cash are you sitting on. If I had a pile of cash say £30,000 I could easily have spent it already this year, because admittedly a lot of the better stuff is now very expensive, to my pockets anyway!
That said, if you haven't seen anything you like, then you haven't seen anything you like. For me 2007 has already been an amazing year and the fact that the Banksy prints haven't come out has left me free to add other artists to my wall who otherwise I might not have had the cash spare for should they have all come out before Christmas.
But great work on getting those titifreaks, they are very good and I would have loved to have got a wires.

I'm sitting on a pile of money!!!, by andrewd on Mar 17, 2007 23:19:52 GMT 1, Each and every year is different but there is always something that you like out there its just a matter oof loooking. Buy what you like and put it on the wall not on the bay. Go for original rather than prints if you can.

I'm sitting on a pile of money!!!, by ABC on Mar 17, 2007 23:35:29 GMT 1, I agree with slowmo, Micallef and Adam Neates new prints would set you back just over 15k for 6 prints. If I had Spare cash that I was siting on they would all be mine as they are stunning. Why buy prints if you have lots of money? Buy originals or in fact 1 stonking original? Dont get your post to be honest, what did you say? "I just think its a sign of people losing their minds sitting, waiting , hoping and praying for those remaining LA prints"
Yes, we all want them to come out but I for one am not going to lose my mind or waste my life worrying about them, there is plenty of other things to keep my mind active. I take it you never went to the eleven show or Andipa or Lazs faile show or...... shall I go on becuase there was plenty of great art for sale at those if you had so much money to burn.

I'm sitting on a pile of money!!!, by Tyler Durden on Mar 18, 2007 21:53:19 GMT 1, 2 words for you. Conor Harrington. Yes £750 for a print is on the high side. Yes I think it's worth it. Yes I'd buy one or 2 of his canvasses if I was sitting on a pile of cash like you. Unfortunately, I'm the guy trying to scrabble his pennies together and buy what he can afford to.
We know that POW has really dragged its heels with the Banksy prints, but I've used that as my motivation to find other great artists, and agree with Slowmo that it's already been a great year for art. I look forward to seeing Titi Freak's offerings through POW, but am already happy with the Failes that I've managed to accumulate this year. Yes I have to let a couple go, but it'll be worth it if and when I manage to procure Conor Harrington's piece.

I'm sitting on a pile of money!!!, by neutral on Mar 21, 2007 16:32:00 GMT 1, Ouch yes they are. Then again £1200 is a price of an unsigned older Banksy print and of a bigger run or not even close to depending on which print! It is mad the market difference between the street art and contemporary art.
