yeah, they say on the listing why they don't want to use the ebay system and seems fair enough. not sure how zealous they are with this sort of stuff.

Banksy took the piss by doing a budget tesco's soup can... I thought it was genius. As for a Sainsburys - why stop there. The next un-original will do one with Asda.

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by irf2112 on Mar 17, 2007 18:15:24 GMT 1, Please read my footnote - its about 'anti-respect'... Infact I ask for your negatives...
'taking the piss' in the sense - Banksy's soup can was hung up in a museum and was un-noticed for some time. Me thinks it was the Museum of Modern art.
Back to the charity issue - Anyone heard of 'Gift Aid'? - You can get an additional 1/3 when donating to registered charities by completing a gift aid form (refund on your tax/NI contribution going to the charity).

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by corblimeylimey on Mar 17, 2007 18:46:28 GMT 1, Let's get back on topic here guys.
brooksey is doing a really worthwhile thing by donating the profits to charity from the sale of this canvas Sainsburys Soupcan, and respect for that.
IMO it's a great image and I bought the screenprint (paper version) myself, it's just as good if not better than Banksy's Tesco Soupcan, but a lot cheaper, and I know the idea is not original, the artist knew that when he created it, it was a offering to people who like the sentiment but can't afford the Banksy version.
It's a step up the ladder from selling exact copies of Banksy's work and has involved imagination and creativity on behalf of the artist. My screen print has been professionally produced and the silver ink has a very nice metallic quality, they could have just used a grey.
Now go to ebay and bid for it if you like it, and help a charity that helps children in need.
Well done brooksey.

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by tomhills1 on Mar 17, 2007 21:33:20 GMT 1, it is for comic relief but the money is for children who are in need
pedant: a person who makes an excessive or inappropriate display of learning. 2. a person who overemphasizes rules or minor details. 3. a person who adheres rigidly to book knowledge without regard to common sense sorry, to highlight the smaller details but i knew that, i was just being a d*ck.

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by hexagonsun on Mar 18, 2007 12:42:23 GMT 1, You seem to be keen on giving away other peoples money. But...
"ALL PROFIT ABOVE WHAT I PAID FOR IT WILL BE DONATED" Wheres your donation?
Why not just get put some money in the collection boxes like the millions of other people.
(Apologies for my cynicism.)

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by tomhills1 on Mar 18, 2007 15:31:54 GMT 1, who's to say we're not doing anything CBL? i just don't make a post about what i do to help other people. i was joking earlier about the children in need/comic relief thing but i think it's a bit rich people who do "selflesss" acts, shouting about it from the rooftops.
i can sleep quite soundly at night knowing i do my bit as i am sure the vast majority of right-minded people do. personally i like to cut out the middle man and go straight to the source and i don't like to talk about it.
no i'm not mike smash/dave nice (can't remember which one's which).

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by Octopus UK on Mar 18, 2007 15:37:22 GMT 1, All that is happening is that brooksy is raising the profile of the auction on the (quite reasonable) assumption that the more who know about the piece the higher it's going to fetch. You are mistaking this as brooksy trying to draw attention to his charitable act.
His donation is the loss (if any) of any future growth in the price of this work of art.

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by corblimeylimey on Mar 18, 2007 15:39:48 GMT 1, brooksy has to shout about it here as if he didn't no one would be aware of the sale and it wouldn't get anywhere near as much money.
I'm not saying people on here aren't doing anything themselves, but then again I'm not criticising people for raising money for charity.

that's fair enough i wouldn't criticise someone for raising money for charity either. i just feel a bit put upon to be supportive yet i feel we're all adult enough to make our own choices. yes, mention that an auction is taking place but don't come back on later on the post making out you're mis-understood and that it's for "charidee".
as i said, a lot of us go about our business more discreetly without the need to play the charity card.

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by tomhills1 on Mar 18, 2007 15:56:12 GMT 1, sorry if that sounded like i was anti what brooksy was doing, not what i meant. to contrast, pezlow is doing a fantastic job in raising money for a local, less well known charity that might struggle without this sort of gesture. i doubt he's trying to recoup his "expenses" though.
i'm not down on raising money, i just think some causes are more deserving than others, you can't give to everyone after all.

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by hexagonsun on Mar 18, 2007 18:11:16 GMT 1, I have no problem with charity work (that would be stupid)
"at least he's doing something and that's better than doing nothing."
whats he doing... giving away other peoples money? He isn't giving anything to charity. Hes getting his money back from the canvas he bought!
That was my main niggle.
(more negative coming my way lol)

ITS FOR CHILDREN IN NEED, by worlddomination on Mar 18, 2007 19:00:20 GMT 1, Afternoon. I've just read all the comments and can i say thanks to all of you who think its a good idea. to those doubters and others may i just say that I've already given to comic releif,i donated £100 and I've thrown change into plenty of buckets, so I've done my bit and feel good about it. As pointed out by cblimey all I'm trying to do here is raise awareness that the item is listed, I've also emailes allmy address book with the link. To those of you who are behind it perhaps you could do the same thanks. Finally to goffyxtc i hope you sleep well at night in your bed because there are millions and millions who don't have that luxury, consider it if the shoe was on the other foot!
