How would you like to purchase new releases?, by brainthedog on Jul 25, 2007 1:34:57 GMT 1, After today's fiasco of trying to get a Mark Ryden (and failing) micro portfolio, I started to think about a better way to purchase new releases.
I think in terms of requirement, the keys are - must be fair so everyone has a chance - prevent people buying multiple pieces under pseudonyms - does not crash a site or prevent people from purchasing
thougths?

1/2 the lot sold via this method:
Issue price and run size is established. everyone who wants one registers over the course of a month. print-seller runs a program to randomly select enough buyers from those who registered. each selected registrant gets sent an offer to purchase with a time limit(so that non-purchased prints can be offered to the next person).
and 1/2 the lot sold like this:
dutch auction. Those who really want a print, and can afford to, pay more for the opportunity to buy one. The 'profit' over the issue price of the print is donated to charity. This way the publisher becomes the 'flipper' and it all goes to charity, so that a good cause benefits and the publisher gets a nice tax writeoff.

How would you like to purchase new releases?, by jonpud on Jul 25, 2007 8:44:57 GMT 1, I would love to see a fair Lottery system bought into place BUT there would always be sceptasism regarding the eventual winners, everyone has friends/people they owe a favour to etc etc, and that includes people in the know at POW, wonder if their names would regularly come up on the random select button?
How about rewarding all of those who bought a Banksy in the early days when you could pick up a signed rude copper for ยฃ75.00? When no-one knew that Banksy was gonna be so wanted and when ALL of the prints were bought by people who genuinely loved the artwork and weren't even thinking of the future value? Why not reward these people with a special release made exclusive to them? (I wasn't one of them by the way....Sadly!)
Other than that ALL previous winners of the Grannies,Applause and Morons could be excluded from the next release eventually allowing 6times the amount of fans to purchase a Banksy at cost price, once all sold if people want to arrange exchange deals on sites like this to secure their favorite print of the series then good luck to them?
Also, Banksy is British, nothing against our American friends but they got their chance to purchase the first run of the prints in LA, I think the new releases of this run should be to the UK only, not sure but I think the majority of the flipping (certainly with the morons edition) has been by American prospectors!
I can't beleive you Brit morons actually buy this shit!!!!!!!!!!
We sell it to them and they sell it back for 6 times the price!! Must be laughing their socks off!!

How would you like to purchase new releases?, by bond on Jul 25, 2007 8:52:58 GMT 1, BLOODY GOOD POINT about only selling to UK ! again i have nothing against the Americans but they did have the pleasure of the show - although i don't expect everyone in the states was able to attend !!
Plus FAR TOO MANY sepias were sold to the US , no doubt pleasing the VAT man who taxed them again on the way back from ebay !
My vote is , no POW email - just pure chance that the people spending time checking the site regularly are rewarded with a print !!
- Here's another idea . Unless POW do send a mail out how about we all agree NOT to announce on this board " GO GO GO " or anything of a tip off nature !!!
Let's see if it makes a difference !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gent รacardi on Jul 25, 2007 8:58:52 GMT 1, Whoa whoa whoaaaaahhh! True that the Americans got a chance to purchase the first run of prints in LA, but if we follow your line of logic, then we can argue that all the previous Banksys were released in the UK. Not only that, all POW releases are done when it's sleepy time in the US. So to even things out, the next 10 prints or so should be released in the US in US time, then! ;D As for flipping, there may have been lots of American prospectors for Morons, but it cannot nearly compare to all the flipping done for all the previous prints by the Brits, can it?
So Banksy held his latest show over here. But he held all his other shows over there. And it's not as if Americans held a gun against Banksy's head and forced him to hold his show in LA! It's not the fault of the Americans that he held his show here, is it?
With all due respect captain, this line of argument is illogical!

I wasn't upset mate! It's just... NOBODY stops me from getting a Banksy. NOBODY!!! ;D
(Unless, of course, it's the POW server, cash flow issues, and the time difference!)

How would you like to purchase new releases?, by corblimeylimey on Jul 25, 2007 9:46:32 GMT 1, How Would I Like To Purchase New Releases?....
Ideally I'd like a representative from POW to visit me at home by appointment, they should bring everything by any artist I've shown an interest in and any future releases, we can lay them out on the kitchen table and I'll make my decisions. They leave the prints I want with me and if I promise to pay within 28 days I get a 10% discount. Then the representative takes me down to a cocktail bar and buys all my drinks for the night.
Ideal. ;D

How would you like to purchase new releases?, by scavos on Jul 28, 2007 20:17:07 GMT 1, I like what Red Propeller are doing for the new Guy Dning canvas:
New preparatory sketch sketch for 'Joan of Arc' oil, conte and pencil on newsprint 20 x 16 cm on sale from 10am Tuesday 31st July
"Due to the chaos of last weeks release we are going to try doing it differently.
This time - everyone who commits to buying the original online over 24 hours will be put into a hat and the first one drawn will get the piece and as before all of the remaining people who have committed to buy the piece will be offered the chance to buy a very limited editon print of it.
Any prints left over from people not taking up this offer will be up for sale on the site the following week. As before the edition number will correspond to the number of people who commit to buying the original
We think this is the fairest way to do this - Guy is in massive demand and we want everyone to have a bite of the cherry."
A fun and fair way to buy.

BLOODY GOOD POINT about only selling to UK !
nice to see british nationalism is still alive and well.

Glad this thread has got back on track.... C'mon nu. It's not about knocking out a load of old tat. I appreciate why your not a gicleรฉ fan but as we know, there are some good ones out there. City Girl 150 for eg. ยฃ200 is a lot of money but if you really like it then it may well be worth it to you. If not then fair enough. Personally, think my Minotaur Woman is superb quality. I suppose the point is, and the reason I like the idea is because it is fair in terms of distribution. For those of us who like Denning's work but can't afford an original, we can still go for the original safe in the knowledge that at least we are guaranteed a print. If on the off chance the original comes up for you then the gallery could offer it to the next person drawn and you get the print. I like it because not only is it it fair but it saves you being at the mercy of the flippers. So the print run will be as big as the number of people that put there name forward for the original. It could therefore be 9 like the last one or 109, who knows? Effectively it will be increased to meet demand. That sounds fair to me. Other than the screenprint/gicleรฉ debate doesn't this sound like a good way to it? Even if i was just every now and again.
