The Triumph of The Little People , by dburn on Aug 4, 2007 8:23:48 GMT 1, Hello all
I recently posted a thread entitled "Love Rat" asking the question. "Why does it look like Love Rat has a antenna coming out of his head"? So far no one has come up with an answer for me. At first I thought being a newbie to Banksy and the Forum that this was a stupid question and that I had not done my homework. Upon further review I still have not come up with much, at least not on the forum. Does no one else find it curious that Love Rat, Radar Rat and Gangster Rat all have something in common? Besides being the only three rats that are different from the ones with the signs and of course representing "the triumph of the little people". Well, I've decided to take a stab at whatโs going on... it seems to me that they are mass communicating to one another and sending us a message as well, Radar Rat is sending a signal to Gangster Rat who is broadcasting it via boom box and Love Rat is receiving the message and spreading the word. "Love". At least thatโs my interpretation. Have I had one too many? Maybe... Never the less. The rats intrigue me. Its like Bankys's version of hear no evil see no evil speak no evil except it's Hear love Speak love and See love...
So again I'll ask. Why does Love Rat have an antenna coming from his head? And if this observation does hold any weight then why has Banksy only put these rats on canvas and print instead of the street's, while the otherโs on the streets are welcoming me to hell and telling me to go back to bed? (p.s dear Banksy please make a "Go Back To Bed" Rat print) I'm actually not completely sure if this is true, I think there are love rats running around the streets somewhere... just a question, most likely wrong, feel free to correct me! And would really like to hear what others may interpret. Thanks for reading db

The Triumph of The Little People , by reados on Aug 4, 2007 8:45:55 GMT 1, Well, very interesting interpretation, i have always seen the rat series as an important series in banksy's portfolio, and they should be displayed as a set if any one is lucky enough to have them all, although the only thing i think the radar rat is a different size to the love rat and gangster rat, so they were not consciously meant to be a set, but interesting reading any way.
The reason no one bothered to reply, is probably because your post got missed among the drivel people post on here which sole concern is how much things are worth rather than what they are all about.
welcome to the forum ;D

Were they done all at the same time? Maybe radar rat is sending the message to both of them at the same time which is why he''s bigger.

The Triumph of The Little People , by runningdog on Aug 4, 2007 10:21:16 GMT 1, I wondered about that head antenna myself. Clearly not a printing error. It could be that he has a cranial implant and is a Russian spy.

The Triumph of The Little People , by dburn on Aug 4, 2007 10:21:28 GMT 1, as far as i know they were not done at the same time. Love Rat and Gangster Rat I believe are the same size and are the most similar of the three (i only have my one unsigned love rat) however Radar rat is actually the smallest of them all. I only know this because a close friend of mine who got me into Banksy has a signed Radar rat.... not to many of those around. any how. when my love rat came in the mail i noticed something sticking out of his head. At first i really didnt like whatever was sticking out of his head but it grew on me with the idea that it could be an antenna. To me this makes the rats more desirable because they work as a team... which means i'm now in the market for a Gangster Rat if anyone has one lying around. I mean has no one really looked into this yet? Im new so i figured i missed something down the line. But even Radar Rat... what is he listening to? or transmitting? its very random to put what looks to be a world war 2 radio on a rat. If i were an anoynomous artist from London (cough cough) I would probably incorporate subliminal messages in the art to say whatever it is I couldnt speak to the public directly about. Banksy isnt going to reveal himself for obvious reasons and i feel he has a close tie to his fans despite his lack of presence so this might be as close to a conversation with him as your going to get... Not to be rude but is everyone just kissing his ass and buying these because "its a banksy?" and Angelina bought one... markets becomming ever more popular....buy now!!!! sell for more later! INVESTMENT! this is what plagues ebay... If i were Banksy and i put the time in to think about this and no one acknowledged it I'd remain underground too... Welcome to Hell the sale ends today...

The Triumph of The Little People , by pelle on Aug 4, 2007 11:55:53 GMT 1, Interesting question, though to come up with a concrete answer is probably going to be pretty hard.
why has Banksy only put these rats on canvas and print instead of the street's, while the otherโs on the streets are welcoming me to hell and telling me to go back to bed?
All three of these rats have been put in the street in the past...

The Triumph of The Little People , by corblimeylimey on Aug 4, 2007 17:51:26 GMT 1, Interesting thread.
I'll have a guess, that the aerials suggest that these special rats have broken out of the 'rat race' they're the only one's to be able to receive independent messages other than those coming from the establishment. Just a wild guess but it would fit in with Banksy's thoughts I think.
