Forum Spamming..., by fecam on Aug 3, 2007 13:36:36 GMT 1, Mentioned this yesterday..
The influx of posts attempting to offload prints which are days old is becoming silly, as are the excuses for wanting to part with their print.
Wouldn’t it make sense if Silky started to charge for these blatant advertisements and put the money towards the upkeep of the site?
Promoting the sale of an older “Laugh now” or “Pulp Fiction” is fair enough, but it appears that this site is starting to become an ebay rival, which I am sure wasn’t the objective when it was set up…

Surely the way around it would be for sellers to read posts by people who say they'd like such and such print and then PM them.

Fair point.
I guess that a fair few people opt for the "read the last 100 posts" option when they enter the site. Perhaps by omitting the ebay sales section from this view, the "spamming" would appear less obvious..
Agree with the CBL point re: PM'ing..

Forum Spamming..., by Daniel Silk on Aug 3, 2007 14:13:42 GMT 1, I know it can be a bit annoying but that was part of the reason for having the Ebay, Trade and Swap board ;D Some people don't want to pay the Ebay and Paypal fees, so the forum can be a good place to do a few deals ;D Yeah, they are gaining by not using ebay, but we can also gain by getting them a bit cheaper if we haggle ;D

PS - Who wants to buy some David Choe prints

As far as im concerned, if i miss i print for any reason, i would hope to hell someone on ere is sellin it days later whilst the cash is still in my pocket.

So you miss the print you wanted which cost £125 you've still got the cash in your pocket but it'll do you no good as the seller now wants £850 for it. Great.

Forum Spamming..., by Michael Jacob on Aug 3, 2007 14:49:26 GMT 1, One thing I would recommend to Silky is a way to accept donations to the sight. I belong to other sites where you can sell stuff. When you pull the listing, a donation page pops up giving you $5, $10, $25, $50 and $100 paypal buttons. Its designed for people who sell on those sites to help the person running the site by giving them a little money if something sells. Alot of transactions happen on this forum, we should be helping Silky out!!!!

Forum Spamming..., by tokyojeff on Aug 3, 2007 14:59:22 GMT 1, The seller donation idea is spot on. Lots of $ has been made through this site and putting it towards paying for it's upkeep seems a no-brainer Many of us out here in non UK land have no other choice but to buy in the secondary market. And this is the best resource anywhere ! I'll be the first to donate and I haven't even sold anything.

Forum Spamming..., by Aza on Aug 3, 2007 16:29:19 GMT 1, I think the main issue is with people who dont contribute to the forum and simply post when its stuff for sale....to me thats rude and should not be allowed. Anyone else should be allowed, at the end of the day its in the trading section so dont read it if you dont want to.

ahhh! ;D Thats really nice of you Tokyojeff ;D but we did have a donation button a little while back, but I decided that it could end up being more trouble than it was worth you might not believe it but I seem to have a group of people that want to attack anything I do so Im trying to keep it all nice and simple ;D

Forum Spamming..., by BK83 on Aug 3, 2007 18:04:15 GMT 1, I dont mind forum members "advertising" prints they have for sale on here, I mean, most of us are pretty interested in swaps/trades/purchases. What I do object to however is the blatant unpaid advertising by some of the Galleries and artists. I emailed Silky about that a while ago now... Some of it is warranted, of course. But when each post by certain Gallery and Artists members (do not want to mention any names, but I think we all know who...) is always in reference to themselves and there is no involvement in any other discussions/threads it becomes quite obvious that they're on here for the wrong reasons. This is frustrating, because Silky has set all these sites up on his own bill and by the Galleries and Artists doing this free advertising thing they are unfairly taking advantage of the situation.
Sorry about punctuation... hungover at work :/

True! but I will say SOME artists do really appreciate what I do, and the work I have continually put into these forums, by sending me the odd free piece or let me have a discount ;D And I really really appreciate that ;D

oh, the irony. on most of the prints you sell the f*ckin ink is still wet.
nothing against people who have to sell or on the 'odd' occasion have to but those who do it habitually...... then to come on here and start a thread bashing said flippers by king porpoise is just a bit rich, no?
do what you gotta do fecam, stick to doing it keeping your head down but don't preach to all and sundry about flippers when there you're as bad, if not worse, than the rest.

Forum Spamming..., by sophart on Aug 3, 2007 22:04:33 GMT 1, I made a similar point on another thread and Mcnuts kindly suggested I make a thread of it (thanks for the welcome Mcnuts, appreciate it) but this looks like as good a thread for it as any. Not referring to genuine fans, but do object to people 'talking up' artists under aliases, especially when its galleries and dealers who we all know do it because it looks so obvious. Its different when these guys come on as themselves because its great to be kept in touch in that way, but I do object to people trying to manipulate and patronise. I also know of at least one artist who had several aliases and hyped himself up quite alot on a lot of forums, who of course I'm not going to name but I'm sure he wasn't alone. Of course if we like something we should say, its the underhand tactics that do seem to pop up sometimes that I object to is all. Soph
