Other "movements" you collect, by brainthedog on Aug 11, 2007 18:10:59 GMT 1, So we all are into graffiti/street art. But, I was wondering what else you guys collect? Modern? Low Brow/Pop Surrealism? I'm looking to branch out and would like to get feedback on what would be interesting for someone who's into street art. thanks

Other "movements" you collect, by tomhills1 on Aug 11, 2007 18:40:48 GMT 1,
sorry, i always associate the word movement with bowel. to then ask about collection, well, it's all too much.
as for different genres, if i like it i buy it, if not i don't. i would never try to define my tastes as all that serves is to limit my horizons and i like to think i'm at least open-minded.

Other "movements" you collect, by brainthedog on Aug 11, 2007 18:55:08 GMT 1, Well I do buy some pop surrealism stuff (Mark Ryden, Tim Biskup primarily) and was just curious as to what others were collecting. Don't really care about artists, just genres.
I also have a Dale Chihuly piece of glass and a few of his prints.

Other "movements" you collect, by pastiepie on Aug 12, 2007 7:48:48 GMT 1, I got interested in street art only thorough American Pop art. Basically when Banksy did the Tesco soup cans. These days most, if not all street art pieces are sold for overly inflated prices. You can get lovely prints by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein from the 60's for the same price as most non-banksy prints go for on the secondary market. I guarantee in 50 years time Banksy will be the only name synonymous with street art and the rest, well who knows.

Other "movements" you collect, by sjh on Aug 12, 2007 12:34:31 GMT 1, I agree with Pastie Pie. I started collecting art with Banksy a few years ago but also managed to get a signed print by Roy Lichtenstein and Robert Indiana for the same price as an unsigned Banksy in today's prices. I thnk the 60's / 70's Pop Artists will outlive the current crop of street artists IMO. However, I'm a strong believer in buy what you like!!
