is the dirty funker future 12"..., by jonnyx on Mar 16, 2008 0:39:40 GMT 1, ...the most expensive/ least listened to newly released record of all time? i know there are records that have sold for more - the beatles butcher cover, god save the queen on A&M, etc, but their collector value escalated way after the release. i can't think of any new ltd editions that have sold for so much.

I can... and not even limited editions as such. I've been selling records and promo records as a sideline to djing and producing for years.
Original promos of the shapeshifters - 'lolas theme' on nocturnal groove were selling for LOADS more than this dirty funker one, as were the initial promos of Eric Prydz 'call on me'. Couple of other examples I could name also of things that have been in HUGE demand- like literally stick them on ebay and gone in 30 seconds- and more or less name your price because they have been THAT sought after.
Nothing like that in that last year to 18 months though.... because the download market killed the vinyl and promo market totally...
Of course, this one is in demand for completely the opposite reason....

It did catapult both their careers...so served their purpose. Neither of them envisaged them being so big, just the usual right place right time right track crap. Neither of them earnt as much as you would think from it either- all of the publishing went to others for the samples, although they still made a fair wedge.
I wasnt complaining at the time- I got in early and cleaned out several online stores and a load from a distributor just before the demand shot through the roof. Then I couldnt list them fast enough!
But yes I agree with you.... the prydz track is totally cringeworthy... thankfully he makes (and plays) stuff absolutely nothing like that nowadays.

I shudder to think of that 'call on me' track, but wasn't it entirely ripped off from Thomas Bangalter?

Pretty much so... fecking dreadful too... but the public lapped it up, they always do (Shapeshifters, Benny Benassi, that awful put your hands up for detroit tripe)...
