TLP & OW Auction for Childrens Foundation, by Opus Underground on Sept 16, 2008 11:42:42 GMT 1, Hey Everyone for a while now Opus have supported the Newcastle Childrens Foundation and we have decided to auction off some pieces that our artists have produced at recent shows.
Up first is Oliver Winconek's 'My Work Has Only Just Begun' so if everybody can dig deep it is all going to a worthy cause!

Think you need to copy the whole link as it seems to chop half of it off

TLP & OW Auction for Childrens Foundation, by jakek on Sept 16, 2008 13:54:22 GMT 1, Is there not a way to get the charity as one of ebay's registered charities? Just doing it that way will mean that you don't have to pay them the fees and commission and so the charity will get more?

It is a pretty big, heavy piece. I think it would need to go under the 'Large letter' category

Thanks it's over a metre by a metre and will be sent by courier so it will probs cost more however if it does cost less the money can either be refunded or donated to the charity!

Indeed... postage prices keep rising and it's difficult for galleries to charge full price for postage. I know we at Edge Art undercharge for postage on most items.

TLP & OW Auction for Childrens Foundation, by Oliver Winconek on Sept 18, 2008 11:45:57 GMT 1, To answer a couple of pm's in one go, the piece I did is painted directly on to the back of the perspex of a discarded frame. I painted it when I was in Newcastle at the time of the White washed show at OPUS. Approx size is 145 x 115cm and if it is picked up from OPUS direct then there is no delivery charge. It's for a good cause guys so happy bidding!

Why put it up for auction? how do you know that it wouldnt have gone for more than your "great offer" thereby benefitting the charity even more.

TLP & OW Auction for Childrens Foundation, by Opus Underground on Sept 19, 2008 13:01:28 GMT 1, Your correct it may well have gone for more however there was an event for the charity last night and the piece was there - an offer was made and the charity accepted.
As it happens another much higher offer was made on the Oliver Winconek piece however it had previously sold on eBay.
Thanks

TLP & OW Auction for Childrens Foundation, by loucastel on Sept 19, 2008 13:09:13 GMT 1, If that was the case ,then their offer should have been put on ebay along with the rest, to give those of us who were not at the event to have a chance!! otherwise what is the point of comming on here bigging it up only to do that! you should have stated from the off that this could happen.

TLP & OW Auction for Childrens Foundation, by Wiseblood on Sept 20, 2008 19:15:30 GMT 1, my girlfriend gave me instructions to win that auction. You dont know what my limit is, so i could have benefited the charity more than a random offer, it was said from the preview night that it was to be auctioned off, not my mate wanted it so i pulled it.

TLP & OW Auction for Childrens Foundation, by Coach on Sept 20, 2008 22:13:47 GMT 1, Tell me if I'm wrong, but where a gallery (or anyone for that matter) is putting up something of theirs for sale and donating the proceeds to charity, it's kinda harsh to then pull them up about how it's done? I was keeping an eye on the tlp piece too, but fair play to Opus, if they've sold it for a good price, from which the charity will benifit. Peace. c

TLP & OW Auction for Childrens Foundation, by mcnuts on Sept 21, 2008 9:23:37 GMT 1, come on, is anyone seriously surprised opus did this? Totally in-line with their antics on here. The constantly flog things ( i cant critique the art for fear of reprisal) and clog up the boards. Now they come on with a (smart business move in the form of a) charity auction - create hype, interest and pull it early. it says more than I need to.
