Jack and Jill ending soon, by Michael Jacob on Jun 18, 2007 19:25:17 GMT 1, Ebay 320124798151. Does everything look cool to you? What about the blind stamp going off the paper. The seller has no provenance. Any opinions are appreciated. I missed the last one and really want to get one.

Jack and Jill ending soon, by ala399 on Jun 18, 2007 19:47:42 GMT 1, There are many talks of "provenance", but what is considered to be provenance? Ok, A full printed signed POW or a reputable art dealer receipt is clearly one. But would POW confirming the registered name to be provenance? Would you consider that on its own good enough?
Thanks

Jack and Jill ending soon, by Run Pig Run on Jun 18, 2007 19:55:05 GMT 1, if they did it via email and the names matched yes. print the email out and hey presto you have your provenance. but obviously as with all POW provenance it can be faked in minutes.

Jack and Jill ending soon, by ala399 on Jun 18, 2007 20:01:47 GMT 1, Thanks bombhugger, I appreciate input and opinion from experianced members like yourself, corblimeylimey and others.
So if the seller can provide a registered POW name, and POW confirms the registered name match, one can claim the print has provenance. In most cases, the original purchases name is on Paypal and thus confirmed. Would you and other experianced members agree or not?

Jack and Jill ending soon, by corblimeylimey on Jun 18, 2007 20:17:56 GMT 1, At the end of the day it's probably not a fake, provenance is meant to show the history of ownership back to origin so the first person to buy it should have a POW receipt of some sort then there should be pay pal or ebay proof of that item selling to the next person and so on.
If that line of provenance doesn't exist just calling POW and saying a print number won't prove much, we all know there's one number 58 out there.

The best form of provenance is getting POW to confirm directly to you, the potential buyer, that the seller is the original owner of the print. If POW confirm this to you in writing, that's very good provenance in terms of authenticating the print.
Going forward (i.e., if you want to re-sell in the future) it's best to get copies of every document the seller has re the print - including any online POW receipt and paypal purchase. I'd also save copies of any correspondence you have with the seller, along with print outs of the auction details, your own paypal payment, etc, etc. That way if you sell, you can give potential buyers the name of the original owner, plus documents evidencing that you bought the print from them.
Finally, if you can pick up the print in person - do. Also, if I was going to spend a lot of money on a print, I'd engage the seller in as much correspondence as possible. If someone is genuine, they're normally pretty open in correspondence.

Blimey, unsigned really is going a bit mad, and when Art Republic sold me my J&J last July for ยฃ500 framed I didn't believe the guy when he said "I shouldn't say this, but it'll probably be worth ยฃ1000 in a years time" it looked like there was no way that was going to happen even 1 month ago, now I'm not sure.

Jack and Jill ending soon, by dog byte on Jun 18, 2007 23:04:28 GMT 1, wow took a hit for saying that... it's all good...
love the j & j print (one of my favorites) was thinking of bidding at last minute (a bit out of my range but what the hell).. decided not to bid because i never had a chance to contact the seller and get a read...
jealous of whoever got it... hang and enjoy
