* PRINT 2008 *, by raiden on Dec 1, 2008 8:54:33 GMT 1, The difference in the analogy being, Herbie Hancock won over both Kayne West and Amy Winehouse - not over the Backstreet Boys or something that was fluff.
If the print is purely aesthetics, I could go with Eelus. If its best print of 2008, "print of the year" or "Print 2008," as it was called, you have to go for Shep. Its a matter of criteria I suppose.
And no, I don't make the claim that Obama won because of Shep's print - because the margin was 7 million - but I will easily make the case that it affected the outcome - in very substantial, quantifiable ways.
By my count, Shep's image was responsible for raising close to $1.5M directly for the campaign off of various official print releases and merch. Plus his early success spawned "Artists for Obama" which generated $5M directly. All told, I would estimate the Shep effect on the campaign as generating $7-$10M in additional cash. And that's even before you factor in the harder to quantify effect of the image - namely its ubiquitousness prior to the election and the effect of the image itself.

* PRINT 2008 *, by twist65 on Dec 1, 2008 14:08:05 GMT 1, For aesthetic reasons I'm down with Life's Too Short too... Been dreaming about owning one of them ever since I saw it at BRP, and of course, didn't get one! Also agree that Sheps Obama is the most important piece of work, and therefore should be the print of 2008. I understand that it polarises opinion/personal taste but I think it not only had a huge part to play in the election, but will be remembered as THE iconic image of a very important moment in modern history. People will still want it on their walls when the hype dies down - because its a great image and will never lose its cultural relevance.

* PRINT 2008 *, by Heavyconsumer on Dec 1, 2008 15:00:52 GMT 1, While I totally understand and indeed respect why so many people see Shep's Obama as the print of the year, it's such a damned shame that the print of the year will prbably turn out to be such a crap-looking one (imo). This totally defeats the purpose behind my own collecting, as it is doubtless one of the least emotive and blandest images ever, unless you believe in the American system of "democracy" and care about it (which I do not on either count) - backlash awaited. Probably my least favourite print of the year or ever for that matter.

* PRINT 2008 *, by BK83 on Dec 15, 2008 19:52:07 GMT 1, For all the bad-mouthing of Walker on this forum over the past few months, I am surprised to see his print in most people's top three for the year -- I hope this means everyone got over their opinions of him, because Walker is fucking awesome!!! Never quite understood where the hostility towards him came from in the first place....?!
