POW Lottery System, by alsbabar on Jul 30, 2009 13:06:12 GMT 1, CG - what has my comment got to do with being for or against them? I pointed out that Mr.B's popularity has been evident over the last 2 months, by the number of people who are still queuing up for his show, and these new fans have just as much right to buy a print as anyone else - therefore the lottery was the fairest way for all to enter and fair play for POW/PC and Banksy for trying something different to accommodate all. Oh hang on the rest doesnt matter, its only those on the forum who are entitled to a Banksy print right?

POW Lottery System, by Ruggs on Jul 30, 2009 13:06:58 GMT 1, Given the popularity of Mr. B's show, how many more thousands of people do you think registered or expressed an interest in his prints? If they did a print release online, these thousands of new fans across the world would have missed out - so give credit where credit is due - POW/Pest Control/Banksy are at least doing something that is fair for all, not just for the few. Also the time window is flawed, because look at the time differences you have to deal with - LA are -8 hours -Sydney +9 Hours. What about the people who were/are away either on holiday or down in Bristol looking at the show?
How did these guys get on with the old system? They would have been f5ing for ever and a day. At least with the time window everybody is aware of the exact hour time limit.

Nice sentiments that i do agree with, however fair for one and all is not really an accurate picture now is it, else everyone seeing the show would have a chance of buying things.
Is that apples and oranges?? It's great that they have opened up the market to new and old fans, but what about the good stuff out back Different set of rules apply?
Hope my name does not end up on the sh!t/tw@t list

POW Lottery System, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 30, 2009 14:01:11 GMT 1, I won nothing and think it worked fine, end of Depends on how many we see for sale on ebay... Could POW not have taken credit / debit card details upon entering the lottery so that the entrants name would have to match the name on the card...thus making it much more difficult to enter multiple times.
POW never see the card information used to check-out, that's outsourced to PROTX. And the level of flipping is relative only to their success in weeding out the bad apples, but has no relevance as to whether the current system is any better or worse. Some of those on Ebay will have been refunded already, others won't. Fortunately 1st time flippers are more likely to make mistakes leading to a refund. Flipping will (and has) undoubtedly increase as time passes and word spreads further afield.
In response to one of Robin Banks' points, I think it's a touch unreasonable to say "You might have had more or less the same chance of scoring one", because for anyone with a fast connection within the UK, you had MUCH more chance than anyone else with a slightly less fast connection and MUCH more chance than anyone in a place with a less direct internet link to the UK. This may seem a bit anal-retentive, but the fact is, since moving to Brazil, I've not even seen a buy button because UK based internet pages take a few seconds longer to load, even with a fast connection. The same is true of most other parts of the world. So when saying people have the same chance, that's completely untrue, although it may suit your needs, you should stop to consider all those not as lucky. You'll see they did not have the same chance as you at all.
It seems to me this release was extremely fair, in the truest sense of the word. The down-side of course is that older, more faithful genuine UK based fans have much less chance of scoring now, so I expect a lot of members here to complain about it.
FWIW, I don't like the not having to reregister part at all. Seems to me that people could end up with hundreds of emails on that database if they were determined enough (and as we know, there are some out there who are and will!). I like the idea of a short window of opportunity, as more people will forget or be unable to enter, thus marginally improving the odds!
All in all, I think it worked perfectly this time round and hope they opt to keep or tweak this system, rather than returning to the previous, much more stressful one, where I wasted loads of my time, knowing that I was almost certainly not gonna score anyway!

POW Lottery System, by andyctree on Jul 30, 2009 14:10:05 GMT 1, I'd much rather have to sit and F5. At least with that system the committed people normally get one. This new system allows everyone and their mothers to basically put in requests. It allows for people to put forth no effort, and create a million different email addresses increasing their chances of getting one.
I would say this is far from fair. If they made you put in a credit card number off the bat I could see it, but this is email based and favors people with more friends willing to help them or people with more emails.

POW Lottery System, by graffalo on Jul 30, 2009 14:30:37 GMT 1, I agree, much rather have an f5 release. At least it gives you some control, besides the panic of checking out is a great adrenalin rush.

POW Lottery System, by topper007 on Jul 30, 2009 14:31:39 GMT 1, Oh hang on the rest doesnt matter, its only those on the forum who are entitled to a Banksy print right?
Sarcastic but probably a fair call as that sentiment does seem to be implicit in a few comments on here from time to time.
So you think POW have done a good job and this is a fairer system overall - fine, I'd agree and some wouldn't. But no improvements suggested for next time (assuming there is a next time)? I agree the 1 hour time window thing doesn't seem a good idea but basing entries entirely on e-mail addresses does just seem too open to abuse.
Oh and are you going to tell the ladies and gentlemen if you got one? Or is it ?

POW Lottery System, by Happy Shopper on Jul 30, 2009 15:15:39 GMT 1, I think they need to narrow the field somehow. Perhaps shorter time for entry. We'll probably see a lot of these prints flipped if they've ended up with people who only had a passing interest, and knew the print would be worth a lot on ebay. We'll see.

POW Lottery System, by Happy Shopper on Jul 30, 2009 17:47:46 GMT 1, Of course, people will always have a reason to sell, but if POW's mission is to get prints to the people who really want them, then they may need to change the system. I don't think the lottery system helps... It works for Faile, but Banksy's too famous! All it takes is for some t**t to mention it on facebook or twitter and a million idiots* will register to win.
*The general public

There certainly would have been people entering with multiple email addresses.

At 12:33 yesterday, I received my email from POW - first Banksy I bought for the original price!

POW Lottery System, by arcam1 on Jul 30, 2009 20:08:50 GMT 1, Personally I much prefered the old system. You might have had more or less the same chance of scoring one but at least you felt like you had a degree of control over it. That's it in a nut shell. If you missed out you always thought 'next time'. With this.......

POW Lottery System, by hlarmy on Jul 30, 2009 20:41:10 GMT 1, POW are damned if they do and damned if they don't...
It's human nature - there is no solution. I do think there are flaws with the current system (especially after hearing news this evening of someone amazingly finding the email in their deleted items and being less than 24 hours away from losing the opportunity to buy) but commend POW for trying the lottery system and hopefully allowing many newbie's the chance to hang and frame their first signed Banksy, a feeling I remember all to well.
