BBC 4 - Where is Modern Art Now?, by Daniel Silk on Nov 17, 2009 15:06:15 GMT 1, www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00nxm6s
Tomorrow, 21:00 on BBC Four
"Documentary in which art historian Dr Gus Casely-Hayford explores the current state of British art. Set against the backdrop of a contemporary art bubble that has now burst, he spends the summer speaking to artists about their work and their thoughts about the future. Following a period in which discussions about prices of art have dominated, this is a film about art itself rather than the market or the celebrities it created. Gus journeys from whitewashed studios to squats to explore what British artists are making, where they are making it and how things have changed. Meeting a spectrum of those who call themselves artists, from Turner Prize-winner Grayson Perry to those just out of college, Gus asks whether a new era in art is dawning and whether there is a reason to be optimistic."

Why? I just could not see how anything that was said to explain the work made any real meaning in relation to the work? If it need that much explaining to convey then it fails its function ? PLease explain as i would truly like to know

BBC 4 - Where is Modern Art Now?, by GD303uk on Nov 18, 2009 15:30:37 GMT 1, Not wanting an Argument, but the one thing i did find very interesting about Kapoor was the fun he got from putting his work up, no pretence at any intellectual meaning, he enjoyed it and thinks we could too and i do. Not unlike a lot of artist we love on the walls today.

BBC 4 - Where is Modern Art Now?, by topper007 on Nov 18, 2009 17:29:16 GMT 1, GD - that seemed to be the overwhelming response the work received at the current RA exhibition based on my visit on Sunday morning. With the exception of the room with the "clay worms", nearly everyone had smiles on their faces walking round.
Good art should = entertainment first and foremost and the Kapoor show seems to hit that mark for most of its visitors (to each of whom what's entertaining may differ of course which is even better). If there's a deeper meaning, great but it's not everything.

Liked what Sir Antony Caro had to say, Thought his opinion was very sound regarding the silliness of what that tiresome worn out institution the TATE try to pass off as the latest in cutting edge
