Love rat sold for £775, by dgb133 on Jun 14, 2007 17:20:04 GMT 1, It's a little silly when people start paying as much or more than Galleries charge on ebay!?! Things are way out of whack.
I noticed how the Morons started to "dry up" and go for higher prices. As soon as they did start going for a little more, the next crop of baggers showed up on ebay with very high end buy it now prices. Funny to watch if they have to drop prices now that everyone continues to cash in. Or if the buyers will cave and just have to blow 3-4k on a Sepia?
There goes the mortgage! Oh well...

Love rat sold for £775, by snakes on Jun 14, 2007 17:30:36 GMT 1, ..its got to the point where i have decided to take my rats off the wall, and have taken a very high resolution photos and got my local printer to make me a life sized replica.
(only a banksy fan could tell the differnce, as no one else does)
Just cannot justify that sort of money on my wall for all to see, what with the art republic issues the other week.

I'm sure galleries will very quickly move their prices up beyond ebays.

Well they probably will, to an extent, but although galleries tend to charge rather high prices. They also (the respectable ones) tend to try and make it look like they're not out to completely gouge their customers. (In my experience) While some of the ebayers seem to have no end for how much they want. I don't know whose worse at this point?
But until people stop being so eager to part with their money I guess it won't end...

Galleries quite often put POA that allows them to give you the price 'on the day' so that way they get the max possible.

Could be? I haven't dealt with any of the "banksy" galleries. But most of the galleries I've enquired or purchased from have not been that shady and corrupt. Except for a rare occasion.

Love rat sold for £775, by paulsammax on Jun 14, 2007 18:34:15 GMT 1, I cannot see the trend reversing which is bad news for buyers. Have just paid £600 for a Morons which I think is a fair price at the moment. Just wish that I hadn't ummed and arred a few weeks ago when they were going for a couple of hundred less.

Well it looks that way right now, but I could list several examples of artists works fetching serious money and then prices cooling off a year or two or more after a lot of their hype died down. I don't see the need to break my bank for an unsigned jack and jill or something. There's just so much good art out there now and there will always be a million banksy prints out there floating around on ebay and elsewhere. They might not ever go down in price? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, at these kinds of prices, there are so many prints out there that there will always be someone wiling to sell. They're not hard to find if you have the money.
You can't always say that about other artists. Some artists are impossible to find even if you do have the money.

Love rat sold for £775, by paulsammax on Jun 14, 2007 19:01:39 GMT 1, Thanks. I havn't bought it for the investment but it's aways nice to know that it will never become worthless. It will go upon the wall facing my signed Emin "When I think of Sex" which I got for £35. Now that probably was a bit of a steal and it freaks the in laws out which is an advantage!

Love rat sold for £775, by reados on Jun 14, 2007 23:30:52 GMT 1, i think the rat series are cool, although i did sell my love rat ages ago i think if you have a set they will be really collectable, and if you look at banksy's street work these rats are some of the most important and recognisable images he has produced, he also mentions it in a video i think it might have been the culture show one.
big up the rats!
