£9800 for barcode!, by verbalkint on May 9, 2007 20:17:12 GMT 1, exactly thomas would anyone pay £2500 over the market value of a print and send said money to another country where you will not have a prayer of either getting money back or justice for theft of money if print does not get sent. deep breath
I wouldnt, but life is full of idoits i suppose

£9800 for barcode!, by tomhills1 on May 9, 2007 20:17:56 GMT 1, true, you can negative point me, but personal circumstances beyond control happened which are forcing me to sell it. if i manage to sort them out i might cancel the sale. and even if i m trying to sell i dont mean i will actually sell it. You are quite right and I am sorry for letting you and some other ppl down. I cannot try to argument with you as I will lose all credibility. Having said that I still remain a banksy fan (even if i sell the print) and i thank you all on the board who has helped me in framing ideas etc of my other prints.
i'm not going to -1 you ad, i'm just a little dissapointed that's all. we've spoken a bit and you seemed dead set on keeping it and actually getting it framed up and on the wall for you to enjoy. then 18 hours after you posted on here about not parting with it you put it up for sale?
it's your's to do with as you wish and any decision to sell is yours and yours only. i'm not going to come all high and mighty with you as it's none of my business and who's to say any one of us will never be in a situation where we have to sell.
like i say i'm surprised and a little disapointed.

£9800 for barcode!, by finsburyparkranger on May 9, 2007 20:22:20 GMT 1, When speculators corrupt a market they usually consume a vast percantage of stock. Even the big boys seem to only be holding a handful of Banksy's each. I think the ownership of the Banksy Market is unusually democratic. Something to consider. Maybe I'm being a pessimist, but I'm not so sure of this Fin. While there are a fair few people that own Banksy prints, I do think there are a small number of individuals sitting on large numbers of multiple copies. Certain people have been stockpiling since long before the current boom.
I tell you one person I met who's carrying a load. Its the bloke that was working in santa's ghetto in 2004 in charing cross road (or was that 2005?). I said that I loved the golf sale print and that it was such a shame it was sold out. He took a deep breath and then whispered he's got more up stairs. He said they'll be worth a fotune one day and he's keeping some for him self. When he was upstairs one the the sales girls turned to me and said she didn't know what the hell he was doing with all those prints upstairs and joked about the fact that he thought they were his pension.
True story. No word of a lie.

£9800 for barcode!, by johnerotten on May 9, 2007 20:40:02 GMT 1, are ebay fees really that much? what is the percentage of ebay and paypal fees?
shit why not fly to the US and cut out ebay and paypal and pick up in person.
when will people realise that you cannot put 'i reserve the right to end the auction early as i am advertising this for sale elsewhere' on ebay listings. If you get reported, your auction will be pulled. You may as well put 'i am open to offers to end the auction early and do the sale outside of ebay to avoid the £200 final value fees and the £200 paypal fees, i am just using ebay for exposure'!!! I mean seriously, why write anything, even if you are planning to pull the listing? Do you think that if you dont write something that you are not legally allowed to pull the listing? dont be stupid. Do you think it gives you credibility, makes you sound like a sales force to be reckoned with? ITS AGAINSED EBAYS RULES AND IF SOMEONE IS PETTY ENOUGH TO GRASS YOU UP, YOUR LISTING WILL BE PULLED. Sorry for the rant, but some peoples stupidity really pisses me off, if you are going to sell on ebay, and sell items worth £££££ then at least read the chuffing rules first

£9800 for barcode!, by adrscib on May 9, 2007 21:11:55 GMT 1, to LesbianWed...
reasons i sold:
1) i could not really find a decent maltese framer to do a good framing job with conservation standards and with your recommendations 2) my wife hates the print and is protesting regularly the face of death
so basically i have 2 choices, keep the print in my portfolio and take it with me to frame it in the uk some day.... or use the excess liquidity that there is right now and get back my cost + some profit which i can use to pay off some of my home mortgage...
to verbalkint....
i have you for saying that we sound like "nigerian scam"... we are very reputable country, part of the EU and once a british colony... so dont be stupid... you actually used our country as a military base.
Our ties to the british are very strong, we are fanatics of the queen and many maltese invest in the UK, a strong fact is that the maltese have more money held in UK banks than in Malta!!!
We are also governed by EU laws too. Just to clear out any false facts you are claiming about my country.

when did i say you were a nigerian scammer? infact did i mention nigeria at all? i dont think i did.
I couldnt give a toss if we have a military base on your island, malta is indeed a beautiful country, have been there twice.
And my point remains valid, if you sell this print for £6500 then i will be amazed.
And my post has saved your auction from being pulled by ebay, saved you from reading all those pesky rules

£9800 for barcode!, by tadghostal on May 10, 2007 2:51:08 GMT 1, my advice would be if that does happen, try and hold tight no matter how bad things get because although in the short-term prices may go below where they should be, in time they will rise and level off.
Two things:
First, all markets peak and crash. All of them. The market for Banksy will as well. Not a question of if, only of when. If anybody knows of a single market that defies this rule, please do let us all know of it.
Second, if you are a believer in the long run value of Banksy, now is a terrible time to buy. Whatever the crowd is doing, your best bet is do the exact opposite. When the market inevitably crashes, giggle to yourself as you scoop up an entire portfolio of signed Banksys for what will seem to be chump change.
Bottom line is, unless you can honestly afford to lose every penny spent on buying a Banksy at today's prices, you'd be a fool to buy anything now. An awful lot of people on these forums counting chickens that haven't hatched yet.

£9800 for barcode!, by pw on May 10, 2007 3:38:35 GMT 1, does anyone here follow the prices of other contemporary artists such as Warhol, Basquiat, Hirst etc?
it would be interesting to know how the prices of signed Banksy prints compares to these artists. I believe that banksys prices are fast approaching those of these artists, and I ask myself, is this justified and/or sustainable??

AGREE 100% EXACTLY WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING. That said I still believe theres still a step up in prices where it will peak with the trolleys release. This will just cause more dreamers jumping on the bandwagon late and making the fall all the more painful...

£9800 for barcode!, by finsburyparkranger on May 10, 2007 8:44:57 GMT 1, Yeah always ups and downs in the market. Thats irrelevant for the long term investor though. Does Banksy represent a generation? Will you be able to seriously discuss early twentyth century art with out giving Banksy a prominent mention? Is Banksy already a legend is his lifetime and what does this mean for his death? These are the kind of questions you need to engage with to decide if todays price is a good one.
