The Photography thread, by Cedric Mnich on Oct 21, 2010 9:02:03 GMT 1, Since the toy scene seems to getting some momentum in the UK lately maybe some will dig the work by Brian McCarty. He just released his first book which includes pretty much his entire career and even talks about much of his technique. He usually creates each image as an edition of 10. I picked up this guy recently and am definitely a fan.
Did anyone notice the toy shades are totally wrong ? Sun is obviously on the left whereas the toy shades are coming from upper right...
The Solar outlined bear is magnificent. Love that pic...

The Photography thread, by yapsey on Oct 21, 2010 12:27:54 GMT 1, i have the Gregory Crewdson book somewhere at home - there are some truly incredible pictures in it. I saw a documentary about him a few years ago and the preparation that goes into a single shot was unbelievable. there are literally hundreds of people working on each shot, turning it into what can only be described as a film set!!
I've also always been a fan of documentary/historical photography too. the kind of stuff you see in www.life.com/timeline LIFE magazine etc. photojournalism, being so entirely removed from the posed perfect nature of someone like Gregory Crewson's work i find to much more genuine; catching a decisive moment of history in time that completely epitomises a period or event.

I was more thinking physically the position looks like 'at sea' and Sugimoto does 5-10 minute exposures or a few hours at night. I guess its taken on a big boat on a very still day.

Both at counter editions ยฃ650 at the moment, good buy.
