Show everyone your latest Art Purchase?, by Reader on May 27, 2021 14:40:36 GMT 1, ha, love the blanket. What's the story behind that ? I borrowed this from Artspace ( the initial work was from both Emin and Sarah Lucas ) The work was made by cutting up Emin's old baby blanket and stitching it with yellow thread to match the very color combination of the Mark Rothko painting at the Tate that moved her to tears - with a label reading: FOR PRIVATE VIEWS AND OTHER STATE OCCASIONS. And that takes us now to the present work. Flash forward seven years to 2010, when Emin, now far more famous than her collaboratrice, was invited to do a pop-up shop-in-shop at Selfridge's department store in London, she made new Rothko Comfort Blankets, without Lucas's name, and with a slightly different tag, in an edition of only 100 - each hand signed and numbered exclusively by Emin Well, they sold out immediately, and are now considered highly desirable and elusive collectors items. Very cool, hadn't seen it before. I asked because we were reminiscing about an old friend last night and were looking online at an old Emin blanket that she made with Sarah.

I'm drifting more and more into collecting books, more shelf space than wall space these days-so this with a print was perfect. Plus, anyone using the term Black Dada gets my attention. With Adam Pendleton, the more I look the more I see. An important artist.

I love her blankets! Shame she stopped doing them ( although I understand why )

Show everyone your latest Art Purchase?, by Reader on May 30, 2021 16:30:15 GMT 1, Our new entry in the Gallery is this COPE2 canvas Looks like he's just ripping off Martin whatson It would make a fascinating article if someone followed this logic. Society "hates" taggers, taggers hate stencil artist. Stencil Artist gets his work smashed and tagged by writers, open warfare on the streets. Stencil artist decides to integrate them into his work. Tags become accepted if on top of stencils...then, stencil artist progresses to removing the stencil aspect just leaving tags...people lap it up, everything from high end furniture to skateboards to Ferraris are tagged. Tagging becomes accepted, but only if done by a stencil artist. Old school graffiti writer makes a tagged canvas -get's called out for plagiarism :-) It's brilliantly mad.

Anthonyโs work is incredible and I love the new textural abstracted direction he is taking now. The framing is the best I have seen from www.theurbanframer.co.uk.
I have posted a few new additions recently but was working through the backlog on framing of lockdown purchases which is mostly done for now.ย

Oh my, this is just so so so beautiful... Unfortunately my bank account was (and still is) quite empty at the time and so I didn't even try. Now, looking at it, so beautifully framed, jealousy starts kicking inn (probably in a good way, if there is). Well done for the purchase and the excellent framing job op!!!

Nicely executed. I'd never previously heard of of Matt Lambert.
But he should also be wary of the risk of coming across as a pastiche artist. The influences here are arguably too obvious: Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, possibly Gerhard Richter to some extent, and (from a more recent generation) Antony Micallef of course.
This portrait does however resonate with me, because I too hate non-pure-blood wizards.
