Gallerys don't make anything like that mark up. And if you think your LIITA is worth more good for you. But having a pop at galleries is a silly game

Trying to mug people off is not a game, and you know that LIITA is worth considerably more than 7K.
Galleries treat people who come on these boards with contempt, unfortunately sometimes justified.
But since the advent of Pest Control, the mark-ups pocketed are no longer justified by the lack of work input.

galleries do not hold this board in contempt. I don't.

In fact alot of member started as fans and went on to open galleries and run shows.

Banksy print prices are not what they used to be. And the idea that the price could be doubled on LIITA is plain silly.

More often then not. Its the galleries that set up walls for artists to paint on in their town without any financial gain.

Personally I do trade and sell Banksy on request so as the fund the other stuff that makes no money.
And if I do sell a Banksy I have 21% VAT on my sales. So if you think galleries hold any member in contempt your very wrong

I dont mind galleries seeking to buy or sell on here. Can be quite useful for other people seeking to sell or buy.


I do however prefer/favour the galleries who post generally, become part of the "community" for want of a better word - eg Brooklynite, to name one of many, to those that only ever post when they have something to buy or sell, but thats just me, just sayin.

I agree, but I feel like some galleries do come on here looking for a bargain, along with everyone else lol! It did annoy me when BRP came on here when I was selling something and totally took the piss with their offer, and I've noticed a few times with other galleries. I've had a few dealings withandipa , who just said if you want to sell anything I've got a show on, but whatever price you want and I'll take a x%. I think this is a better way rather than trying to mug someone? no

why don't you just offer a deal with the owner? be honest and say I've found someone who would like a certain print for x but I would like a x cut in pm of course! If you can find a buyer for my signed very low numbered HAND I'd be happy to give you a finders fee.

@ theleveller - exactly! no one denies that galleries are an essential part to the system, but it's the lack of clarity that leads to distrust exacerbated by the good old 'POA'. I've talked to LAZ briefly regarding a Harrington I have, and they operate using said system. Cost minus commission. Simple and clear.

@ anewspace - doesn't this system compare to the 'margin' regime and offer a better deal for everyone? ?

I've all the conor prints but gonna frame them up and sell in Dublin in the new pop up.

But you should tell me the proper price ?

Having a go at a gallery on a forum is a cheap shot as a collector I don't buy anything that doesn't make the wall otherwise whats the point.
As a dealer, its a different game but outside of London or major citie its a different scene. I admired the boys who ran UP fest in Southport as they stepped up beyond all the crap and did something really special with no money. Bristol upfest keeps growing but its Bristol. But thy keep the quality high.

They're the real heroes. Its much mor interesting to see the kid on his big day shining then all the hype on forums. Money doesn't make are good. POA is really dealing with hype monsters. The scene grew so quick. prices kept moving. And always remember being in certain collections is better then others

Apart from the accolade for Upfest (which I wholeheartedly agree with - have been to all of them), I am not sure what point you are makin anewspace.

Citing someone else's good practice is no defence for your own.

Not answering the constructive alternatives offered also doesn't help your case.

The scene grew so quick. prices kept moving" - So the scene is still moving that fast that you can't put prices up in public? hence 'was' The fact is that POA only helps the galleries respond to price increases and is part of the hype in itself. Unless a gallery subscribes to the aforementioned system of % commission, it only helps them pocket the difference.

As for the Conor, was just being helpful pointing out a possible glitch, although it may help if you mentioned that they were only prints.
