Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by SilkyFan on Jul 31, 2007 20:46:30 GMT 1, (Correct me if I'm wrong Silky) Silky is not associated with POW. He has collected the info that is on this forum from several sources and done a great job doing so. But I do not think that much of the info is direct from POW/Laz/Banksy. huh?? Now I'm confused! Wouldn't it have been more reliable just to ask pow?
Aha! ;D Confirmed by lesroy! ;D 100 signed. I knew Silky was right!! ;D He dunt publish info without checking with pow first!! That man does his homework! ;D

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by headphonesex on Jul 31, 2007 20:50:35 GMT 1, I'm 99% sure that there were only 50 signed. But if you can show me somewhere where it says there are 100, i'll be glad to admit i'm wrong.
I didn't start the thread on w*allca*ndy to poke fun at people here, and I don't think anyone's been doing that. It's been a concern before though that a lot of people use this forum as their primary information source for all things Banksy... and that some of the information recorded on the site as fact is wrong. And also that a lot of people here claiming to be knowledgeable about all things Banksy are also often wrong.
So sometimes I jump in a bit snappily, because I don't like people making decisions about potentially spending (or not spending) thousands of pounds, based on duff information.
And no, i wouldn't give someone in a different country with 0 feedback £10,000, unless I was handing it over in person!

I think your reply no2 on Wall Candy was un called for, it obviously was meant as ridicule. You really shouldn't copy and paste what people have posted here and post over there.

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by ABC on Jul 31, 2007 21:03:53 GMT 1, Id say that sig looks good but Id want to pick that up by hand and see it first for that price. As for the sig it is fact that his signature has changed over the years, anyone remember the canvases from 2003, the sigs looked well rough and will always get accusations that they are fake nowadays, Its always going to happen when rare things come up for sale. The problem with early Banksy prints and canvases is that they were not cataloged very well, if at all.

Anything else to go on, that would really put any worries out of your mind?

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by tomhills1 on Jul 31, 2007 21:06:26 GMT 1, at first glance i would have said moody as a premenstrual b**ch but having seen the evidence, namely photo comparison, i'm more convinced. i've long held the belief that a true obsessive would actually be able to tell what banksy print they're looking at, just by the signature . seriously though, it has definitely changed over the years, it's got more angular and jolty rather than round and flowing (they're technical terms BTW).
there could be a bit less bashing though, most of these conjecture threads start with "what's your opinion of this?" then when people proceed to offer theirs they get jumped on for saying something that the next person doesn't agree with.
on the subject of this actual print, get all the evidence, ie. provenance etc and then decide if you think ebay and paypal would care as much as you should the worst happen? as has been said, get it agreed, ring ryanair and do the deal in person, assuming you have £10k+.

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by headphonesex on Jul 31, 2007 21:12:13 GMT 1, Honestly, it wasn't intended that way. Some people 'over there' have had issues with the fact that silky is seen as an authority on all things Banksy 'over here', whereas in fact he has no close ties with POW or Lazinc, and knows no more than you or I.
Again, this isn't a criticism. However it's hard to tell from some of the information on the site what is fact and what is guesswork.
Perhaps, as the other poster suggested, Silky should go into POW & get together an authoritative & officially approved guide to information on prints. I think that would be a useful resource.
Anyway, I don't want to get into forum wars. I think this is a great site and i've found a lot of useful stuff & great art through it. Hopefully I can contribute a bit as well.

All you've got to do is say you think the information someone has given is wrong and provide the info you think is correct, Its not hard to rectify misinformation in a friendly way. Ebay auctions last days, there's time for error's to be made. Chill out.

Well put, PEACE.
Silky has done his best and he's never put himself forward as THE ORACLE, he started this forum and it's reliant on what the members put into it.
ANY accurate advice is gratefully received, I'm sure the print details section will be amended if solid information comes available, it's not written in stone, and there's many instances in that section where the extra advice is openly asked for.

i didn't mean you specifically for jumping on people voicing opinions, mine was a more general winge at "what do you think?" threads getting jumped on when we all have differing opinions, some closer to the truth than others. that was all.
until we have a definitive guide on these things, there will always be doubts and conjecture and to a degree, some mis-information albeit indirectly.

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by bonesy on Jul 31, 2007 22:03:17 GMT 1, The sig looks beautiful to me. If the seller were trying to fake the sig he wouldnt have been so "fancy" (lack of a better term) with it.
Agree that I would never even send $1000 to a foreign seller with zero feedback, but the pics look good anyway.

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by policeaware on Jul 31, 2007 22:45:52 GMT 1, So much confusion......
CBl hit the nail on the head. No-one on any forum will be able to provide a rock solid authentication for a prints origin other than POW.
What people may share will be either experience, guess work, third hand information or totally intended/unintended misinformation.
Ask POW.
In terms of people on w all candy having a problem with Silky, well thats pretty much a thing of the past so why keep raising it as a reason to disbelieve someones advice that may or may not save you making a serious buying error. Both forums exist for the same reason.

I think people confuse the 'voice of authority' as being Silky bigging himself up. I think i'm right in saying its a just name for the collective shared print knowledge gained over time from forum members or nicked from other web sites.

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by Daniel Silk on Jul 31, 2007 23:56:28 GMT 1, Sorry, I have only just come across this thread
"The Voice of Authority" was just a member that came along and offered to provide some images and information about some Banksy pieces ;D As we all know POW's rules on Numbers, Stamps, and such were never really set in stone in the early days, so the odd print does turn up that might not match the guide laid out in the Prints Info section of this forum. Any info I posted about print run sizes, stamps and signatures was gained from contact with Ben at POW. I don't pretend to know anymore than anyone else about Banksy pieces, but if I know something for sure, I will say so and If I'm not really sure, I will never tell it as fact.
This forum is all about people learning from each other, plus being open for the Galleries and Artists to come and answer questions themselves. I have noticed a few people seem to like making out that I act like some sort of dictator on here and I find that really funny ;D The people that really get to know me and meet me in person can clearly see that I'm as far away from that as possible ;D But, I am in a position to stop others acting like a dictator and thats where I seem to rub those people up the wrong way

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by Daniel Silk on Aug 1, 2007 0:06:34 GMT 1, Just had a bit more of a look at this thread
Back in those days the signed pieces would have been part of the full run ;D meaning they could be spread out in the 500. BUT, I was told by Steve Lazarides that with some of these early prints they printed say 500, and planned to do 100 signed ;D But in those days nobody wanted the signed ones, so they just kept selling them unsigned until the 500 were all gone meaning, only 50 signed ones out of the run might have been sold in the end ;D

How much was the price difference back then between signed and unsined? Couldn't have been that much. Although I know it can be a lot to some people. If only I had money to start buying this stuff back when I was in college. Apparently I'd be rich right now

Banksy • Flower Thrower • Love is in the Air, by RBK on Aug 1, 2007 2:26:08 GMT 1, So has anyone actually heard back from the seller?
Think many in this thread raise some good points. I also worry that people are quick to dismiss auctions or call sellers shady before having all the facts. Speculating about authencity can be dangerous and ill-informed - so before making a bold claim - I'd be 100% of what you are typing is fact.
Both forums exist because we all have a common interest and they can be invaluable places for knowledge/help/advice - let's keep it that way and encourage discussion, rather than yelling fire before people even get into the theatre.
