Flipper problem, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 3, 2008 20:10:07 GMT 1, never try and stop flippers, they are making you a s**t load of cash: see anti-flip artists who have fallen from grace......eelus, miss bugs etc.
Now that's an interesting viewpoint! Do you believe that flippers bailing out genuinely hurts an artist or can it be seen as a reflection of the quality of their work that the secondary market simply isn't so strong? I mean maybe they wouldn't have sold out that initial edition or two, but in the long run do the flippers make such a difference to who likes the work?
I really don't know. I can actually see an argument for both sides. I mean they certainly raise a profile very quickly and people say there's no such thing as bad publicity, so I see where you're coming from.

But the point is surely, that his popularity and oversubscription for his work, drew those who saw the opportunity to flip, not the other way around?
Which is the cause and which is the effect?

yes, see dan baldwin. when it looked like his prints could be worth more than the original price in the future hundreds of people on here were creaming their pants and buying any old print, now you never hear his name mentioned. But this topic has been done sixteen thousand million billion times before and some people get very angry when they see it again so let's drop it, eh.

Flipper problem, by Heavyconsumer on Jul 3, 2008 20:38:51 GMT 1, Nightmaresonwax, you seem to have gone off on a "flipperbasherbashing" tip, with noone doing any bashing. Just conversation dude. No insults, no defamation, no rudeness of any kind except your initial, unprovoked rudeness towards Grafter, for asking a reasonable question. Admitedly I was a little unkind, because that type of thing winds me up. However, I certainly don't want to persue some kind of ongoing grudge or slagging match with you, I had something to say and I said it, which is just my way! I'm perfectly happy to engage you in a civil manner on the boards.
If you've been around so much longer than me and know so much more, I hope to have many new doors opened by you, you can make this place richer for everyone, instead of filling it with unnecessary spite.

Flipper problem, by nightmaresonwax on Jul 3, 2008 20:45:56 GMT 1, HC - sorry but two of my biggest bug bears are "flipper bashing", takes up so many unnecessary time and causes so many tensions between, what I hope are civilised people - and Grafter set himself up by naming the thread "Flipper Problem". We have all flipped, move on!!
The other are artist bigging themselves up under false names - truly pathetic and again unnecessary and lets call a spade a spade - Grafter should be honoured that someone values his piece flippable, it is one way of saying this guy has value
As for opening doors, they swing both ways, the can just as easily slam in your face

Flipper problem, by raiden on Jul 3, 2008 21:13:31 GMT 1, Hey Grafter...
You have a legit concern that the piece in the picture isn't the one they are selling (exactly). You really aren't supposed to steal other people's picture on ebay.
But honestly, have support for flippers.
I'll say it now, I've flipped some art on the bay to buy other pieces or attempt to trade up on bigger and better pieces. Its part of the fun of art collecting - and I get to make space on my walls for better and more beautiful pieces.
Your average flipper is generally someone like me... who isn't rolling in cash but still wants to maintain an impressive art collection. The way to do that is to play the market a bit. (Frankly, if I snagged the MBW print at his LA show, I'd be flipping that now for $150 and buying a piece from a more worthy artist on this board.)
And remember, if you kill your secondary market, you'll kill interest in your pieces.
There are 10 artists that I want to buy pieces from... but the artist I'm going to buy my next piece from is whichever one I won't be able to afford if I wait to buy a piece of...
Flipping is what finances my art habit.

Flipper problem, by moleman on Jul 3, 2008 22:44:42 GMT 1, as a buyer and hopefully future buyer or grafters work he has a valid point on his complaint about the seller and i would also say that 1 its to early to sell a grafter print as he is fairly new ( no offence bud) 2 when a print goes on the bay it shows how much interest there is in an artist out of the forum and out in the real world I think grafter should be looking for an increse in the original price, and if it goes up so can his next print release to match it. Spqr canvas cost 65 quid to start now some over 500 and fair play his work is great and im sure he had been spraying etc for ages to get where he has jesus we all have to make a living. Grafter vaild point but wrong heading bud let them flip get the notice from it and grow with it i will buy again. And call your self what you like its a free world and forgive me if im wrong nw does not sign nick walker and nor does adam neate

Flipper problem, by raiden on Jul 3, 2008 23:38:21 GMT 1, Or better yet, start listing your own stuff under several assumed names, bid it up, and start having other people on this forum say... "Wow, look at Grafter's stuff, it sure is going up quickly, we all better jump on that bandwagon!!!"
I'm just sad I didn't get in on that pretty dandelion stencil piece because I was too slow to read that thread... Sigh...

Flipper problem, by melmoth on Jul 3, 2008 23:46:01 GMT 1, Perhaps I'm missing something on this thread, but isn't the problem here that:
1/ The seller is using Grafter's photographs without permission. 2/ Due to the way that the seller is listing his location, it looks like Grafter himself is selling the canvas (and at an inflated price).
I could see why Grafter would be upset with this - in the latter case, we would have been all over him if he was doing this.
I didn't personally read into it that Grafter was opposing the concept of a flip per se, certainly not in the original posting that he made.
