HITCHHIKER BACKGROUND INFO: Last month Above painted his hitchhiker stencil site specifically on a wall that was positioned next to busy road in Berlin. Now back in the U.S.A. Above has been printing up a storm on this 10-layer hitchhiker print. Above is well known for his self admitted “addiction” to painting and global travels. He made a video of this piece Above best described this situation here

“There is no better feeling in the world to me than going to a new city and painting a fresh wall! I’ll be the first to tell you (and those who have unfortunately met me) that I have some serious addiction “problems.” Dealing with addiction is not always easy. Being honest with oneself and to not be in denial about such problematic issues is the first step to recovery. I must admit now that I am addicted to traveling and painting! I just can’t stop doing each and when I try to stop for small amounts of time I go even crazier than I already am diagnosed with. This piece was more of a personal tribute and way of dealing with this addiction. “CITIES” EDITION (9 in the edition) INFO: The texts on each of the 9 CITIES prints have been individually hand painted on by Above. Quoting Above ” I thought it would be fun to exchange the normal edition texts and insert 4 European cities that I recently visited these past 3 months. I hand paint (Paris, Rome, Berlin or London!) on each print. The romanticism of hitchhiking through Europe with a backpack filled with paint is something very close and personal to me. I have enjoyed doing this myself several times and thought It would be nice to reflect those experiences in this edition.”

Agree. Arrows all the way. These weird prints do nothing for Above. They don't even assume any specific role within his body of work. I don't get it...

Hey Happyshopper. I assume your not familiar with this stencil street piece he did somewhere in Berlin?



In addition to that it really is a funny print and works well on paper IMHO.
We have already promptly sold out of the special edition and have been consistently selling the normal edition. The 10-colors really look great in person.

What seems to be going for Above is that he is very versatile with his street artworks and print editions. Some members and collectors like the arrow based works, others the full color stencils, or even the word play murals he paints. It appears as if you as well were not familiar with this piece from Berlin and that it was stenciled in the street.
If i can ask and get feedback from you, what's weird about this print? I think Above explained it by saying it's a commentary of his lifestyle and any artist who likes to travel and paint at the same time. I feel with the exception of his first love print from last year this street stencil piece translates very well onto paper and out of his often site specific themed stencils. From the print the viewer can easily get the humor and point. ;D

If he'd done the stencil around the world... maybe. But once in Berlin, which very few would have seen... then a print!?
... and the Special Edition loses the joke completely, which makes it very boring!

Sorry to be pedantic but that "England" flag is actually the flag of Great Britain: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The English flag is the Saint George cross: red cross on a white background.

Hmm. Not sure if the France special edition works too well. Looks like the Italian flag instead. Also the distorted proportions of the stars for the USA and Australia one makes it look a bit too much like a quick Illustrator/Photoshop job.
