Dale Marshall π¬π§ Vermin β’ New Paintings β’ Exhibition News, by stenev on Oct 10, 2010 1:45:13 GMT 1, I think if needed a seperate thread for people looking would be nicer, rather than a few more pages of people trading/selling.It was at such a level that it deserves some talk about the content and reactions etc. This is of course 'JMO' Quick Walshy start the wanted thread and be first in line
Agreed and it's been done! Wish I could have made it and had some content & reactions to post!

Dale Marshall π¬π§ Vermin β’ New Paintings β’ Exhibition News, by stenev on Oct 10, 2010 1:54:32 GMT 1, Don't worry, didn't think you were!
Looking forward to hearing peoples thoughts on the show as I know I'm not going to get down there but like the style and think even at flippers prices it will be a great price for some original art.

Dale Marshall π¬π§ Vermin β’ New Paintings β’ Exhibition News, by hlarmy on Oct 10, 2010 8:05:52 GMT 1, A very enjoyable show; despite not ideal buying conditions and the inevitable bunfight that ensued, it certainly lived up to the hype and was exciting to watch the red dots (or NFS scribbles) appear under each piece one by one for the first hour to the extent that within that first hour, the show was pretty much sold out, with potential buyers missing out on their first, second (etc) choice and having to return to the canvas-lined walls to look for another gem.
As the crowds dispersed and the dust settled, the quality of the art started to shine through. With 101 abstract paintings from one artist, there is always going to be an element of similarity but I was very impressed at the range of styles and the different themes Dale managed to create - I picked up a lovely little Monet myself . I was particularly taken aback by the installation art towards the rear of the room, quite disturbed and haunting that certainly left a mark on me, and which on returning to the main room put a different perspective on the art and certainly gave it more meaning.
I would love to return in the next few days to fully appreciate the art, something that I don't feel I was able to do last night (and something that is always the case at a buyers preview); for those tempted by the trip down to Bristol, I'd recommend it, even if there's nothing available.
For those who have asked the question, when I left at around 8pm I believe there was a few of the 101 canvasses still available so keep an eye on the art-el website if this is the case (although I wouldn't be surprised if none appear). Otherwise it looks like art-el will be putting about half a dozen pieces up for auction (sealed bid) in the coming weeks so there's another great opportunity to pick up a piece before prices inevitably rise.
Good to meet a few forum members, and congrats to Mike and Dale for what has to be the most successful show I've been to for a while.

Walshy, I would be very surprised indeed if prices weren't 'jacked up' given the success of last nights show and how low the canvasses were priced!

Ha
I have no idea what Silky is thinking and why he would post something like that, and frankly I don't really care. Can I suggest we ignore the past few comments (I should be a moderator!) and get the thread back on track.
By the way, I have just been informed that the show sold out last night in under an hour... well done all

I think 25% of it was sold before the show started.

Dale Marshall π¬π§ Vermin β’ New Paintings β’ Exhibition News, by flackat on Oct 10, 2010 14:15:58 GMT 1, Congrats to Dale and Mike for putting on a great show last night - all the pieces looked great together, and the scramble at the start for them was something else!
Managed to get one of the pieces that me and the wife had hoped for, so was well chuffed.
Looking forward to popping in to take a look at the show on the way home in the week, when its a bit calmer.

Not sure what the story is with these Walshy. Mind you it was supposed to be "first come first served" as well! The e mail that came with the pdf for this said something along these lines that it would be first come first served on the night but a percentage would be made avalible beforehand to overseas clients and people who had supported the venture from the outset but could not attend last night. As far as the show is concerned WOW. I thought the installations were very harrowing helped explain the paintings. Incredible work dale

Dale Marshall π¬π§ Vermin β’ New Paintings β’ Exhibition News, by OutsideIn on Oct 10, 2010 18:37:12 GMT 1, ok so i woke up at 7 30 with the biggist hangover, no way could i walk to the station to get a train, driving was gonna be quicker, i had another hours sleep and was there at 11am, i wanted to make sure i would get my two faves and have been waiting for this show for months. my legs were killing but i was still standing and getting excited by the small glances of when the door was opened. It looked so much better then the pdf, these pieces can only be viewed in person to experience the real textures and quality of the oils.
I queued with buffin and was fun just to chat about art etc. Got to chat with Dale and what a nice guy he is.
some more guys joined at around 3pm and we had some good laughs, a funny incident involving a alcoholic demanding for alcohol and showing his disgustingly cut hand.
At about 4 i heard that around 20% had been reserved, i was a bit anxious whether i would end up getting any of my favs, i only knew of four numbers i wanted and i knew they were the popular ones. I knew of others but i knew i would need about 5 mins to decide which ones i wanted.
my legs were getting worse and worse but it was getting closer but the minutes slower, i havnt been so excitied over a show in a long time.
6:30 came and i feared how the buying was going to work, nothing was explained and the doors opened, I went in and everyone behind just sprinted, jumped and trampled in. I went to the first lady to ask to buy my first number and she said sorry im only doing numbers xx up to xx. so there were 3 people dealing with ranged of numbers. my canvasses were in different ranges and after going to the first lady i had to go to the other guy where there was already a queue building up. i was panicking big time and felt a bit angry as i queued from 11am. so i pushed to the front and explained, 1 guy already getting his if he was to pick my number i would of told him where to go but he didnt....so luckily i got my first choice! and then only 1 of my other choices was available (all of my other ones reserved, funny). so i managed to get 2 of my favs!
im NOT blaiming art el or anyone, everyone worked hard and dealing with this wouldnt of been easy, and for a change it didnt feel like the people at the gallery working was only interested in making money. the best way i think this would of been to give out numbered tickets to the queue. let everyone in to the show, give 5 mins for everyone to pick their canvasses and then go through tickets selling to people 1 at a time, that wouldve been the fairest way...but nevermind.
also got the signed book which is so much better then what i was expecting, i expected a zine but got this bounded book with images, clippings, stories etc.
after once the panic was over I walked round experiencing the pieces, installations etc. Every piece had its meaning, a thought, something so powerful - no two the same! Dale is incredibly talented and these pieces were amazing.
Dale had really let us into his heart, this show was on such a personal level it felt emotional (i hadnt even been drinking, not after the night before anyway) , not really felt this way about a show before.
I want to give Dale a massive thank you for the show, all the hard work has paid off, and Mike you are one of the nicest guy out there, thank you for helping me and this was definitely the best show of the year.
I drove home and fell asleep.
