Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by gbh on Oct 23, 2008 14:45:18 GMT 1, I'd have to agree with POW, definitely the print of the year In what sense? Technically? Because it's 9 colors? Or because POW has had a pretty s**te year this year with regards to the quality of their prints?
because it's art...and I like it a lot.... that's the wonderful thing....

Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by pezlow on Oct 23, 2008 14:45:23 GMT 1, Very cool print this. Not buying but an excellent, clever, image. Is it named great scott because that's what WW2 fighter pilots always said or after Peter Scott the naturalist?

Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by spirit on Oct 23, 2008 14:45:55 GMT 1, I like it - I ummd and ahhd for a while but decided not in the end - trying not to buy anything unless it is really very special. And although a good take on the war theme, it's still the war theme...

I believe they aren't in the same league as this one in regardless to sharpness of idea/message delivery.

Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by elwheel on Oct 23, 2008 14:47:32 GMT 1, Agree with BONGO - the gun/weapon/arsenal thing isn't nudging my nodger anymore. Looks very pretty and technically competent and I like some of GEEs non-gun stuff but what's going on? Is it a pastiche at bombing middle England or is it just a nice picture that shows how birds and bombers look similar or is it nyerkgrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhh etc... etc...

Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by kennas on Oct 23, 2008 14:55:28 GMT 1, I cant help wondering if the only reason this has sold out so quick is due to the fact that it was released on its own, with a mail to the POW mailing list. Is it flippers? Dont think they will make much money on this one. As it happns though, I like the print, currently have one in my basket. To buy or not to buy....

Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by bullet on Oct 23, 2008 14:58:24 GMT 1, ive got a feeling they have made a mistake with the edition size numbering, i would have thought this was more like 75-100 so the site has been stopped.

Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by arcam on Oct 23, 2008 14:59:22 GMT 1, I was getting a banksy print verified last week and the original was in the POW showroom... My first thought was "that looks like it could be a Banksy"... e.g... Old painting with something new whacked on.... I can see that......

Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by weaver on Oct 23, 2008 15:00:36 GMT 1, Because its good, she is a ledgend and her work at Β£25 was vastly underpriced / underrated, then again at the same time her prints were Β£25, Banksy's were Β£65 and hewletts were Β£50.... the times that are a changing. I'd say that Β£175 for this piece by an established and respected artiste is alot more sensible than some of the pieces offered on here by much newer and unheard of ( apart from this forum) artists..
Yes but to be fair if it wasnt for the rallying of this forum over the last 6 months a lot of her work would never have sold on POW. So your assumption that her work went on sale with Bansky and Hewlett for 2002 prices may be correct, but she never sold. So again I ask what has she done since then to push to 'established' artist criteria..? I do agree that the prices of some of the artists on this forum go for over and above resumable, but I think that says more about some of the punters on this forum looking for the next big thing than the art itself.
Possibly the fact that she has been an established artist for the last 25 years might have something to do with it, Dead Kennedy and Crass artwork, global anti-war and CND spokesperson? dunno, just a thought
The next big thing Gee will not be, but someone who produces some cracking artwork definately. You have answered your own question in an rather indirect way, the reason her work hasn't been hoovered up before is because she was most certainly not going to be the next banksy.

Gee Vaucher π¬π§ Crass β’ Punk β’ Print Release , by Deleted on Oct 23, 2008 15:02:42 GMT 1, Nothing to get excited about and a bit expensive in my opinion (although, obviously not in others) I do agree with Bongo. I just can't get excited about War orientatied prints. Banksy has already mastered this subject. I don't mind Gee's images, but there seems to be no consistency in style.
