Hi Sean. I read about the pop up store. Did you pick anything up? Was there anything good there? What were the prices like, just out of interest?

What were the prices like, just out of interest? Picked up re-mastered CD's coach. Good quality posters £10, t-shirts £20, album cover prints as available at The Outsiders. Exhibition included guitars, clothing, early gig posters, artwork, scribblings etc. Usual stuff you'd expect, but as someone who's attended far too many punk exhibitions this was the first time I'd seen so much Clash related stuff.

Just listened to the transmission clip Sean. So, what's that all about then? They play joy div songs with classical instruments? Just transmission, or lots of jd songs? Interested.

What Music are you listening to at the moment ?, by Deleted on Sept 22, 2013 11:01:49 GMT 1, Just listened to the transmission clip Sean. So, what's that all about then? They play joy div songs with classical instruments? Just transmission, or lots of jd songs? Interested. It's an orchestral set up, augmented with bass, guitar, drums, keyboards, samplers etc interpreting the work of joy division. So yes, plenty of jd songs. But it's not straight forward cover versions, just played by an orchestra. Sometimes it's just a riff that's decipherable. The sounds used are fantastic, and very reminiscent of what Martin Hannett created.
But what made it for me was the lighting and projection. Having lit plenty of classical stuff, most orchestras want pretty standard stuff -overhead white lights so they can see and read music. This was lighting you'd see at a gig - intelligent lights, in sync with the music ( not just left to move aimlessly like in most venues ), plus projection and images based on the music of jd. There was a bit about half hour into it where the very simple animations were based around the dancing of Ian Curtis. It took a few seconds to realise, but when you got it it was hypnotic.
If you put in 'heritage orchestra' into youtube you'll see a few excerpts.
The show's about an hour, with an 'encore' of 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' based around the string section and Ian Curtis's vocals.
As a live performance and something different I'd recommend seeing this.
