each with their own possibilities. I only have a few Banksy postcards and some original stamps.
It is difficult to buy Banksy works for many like me.
It's a nice poster though (posters will never have a certificate).

I think when you know what to look for and research (if you've not owned one before) then I don't think the risk is so high.

I can’t imagine people will be queuing up to pay £6500 for these when some unsigned prints are hammering at £8k at auctions.

Monkey Queen & Flags both went for £8k + fees at the Sotheby's and Bonham's auctions last week so definitely worth monitoring future auctions.

Although perhaps a little provocative, my questions above were sincere, not rhetorical.


If you are selling an authentic Monkey Parliament, then transparency is your friend. In which case, please post some photos of your poster.


Conversely, lack of transparency by any seller is generally a red flag. This includes coyness with the public posting of close-up and context images (especially when the sale item isn't a unique or original artwork). It also includes being unforthcoming or evasive about provenance details.

Such behaviour is quite often an indicator of bad faith. It could easily be interpreted as a cynical effort by the seller to retain deniability — so they can still plead innocent ignorance ("Sorry mate, I had no idea.") if later called out for selling a fake.

Maybe... The same awful copies (  colors passed at the wahsing machine with chloride bleach - eau de Javel ? )  , we can see it on the ebay item where the seller posted only photos fo a closed tube...  People don't doubt anything... What a world !

Tough one to price. At one point they were trading for £4k-£5k but that was when Flags were trading for £30k. Now some of the entry point prints are failing to hit £10k at auctions. Presumably when the print market tumbles so does the cost of posters etc. I'd hazard a very loose guess at £2k-£3k tops but I'm sure someone more in the know will have some input.

The price at peak was £7k and post peak has been £3.5k. £2-3k would be a good price if offered!

Monkey Parliament poster I bought myself from the Bristol Museum exhibition. I got it framed with "Baker Street framers" in Brighton after buying it.

It's in mint condition, I have the original tube, it came in plus a receipt from the museum shop.

I could take it out of the frame but would prefer not to. I'm not sure what these are going for now so if you have an offer I would like to hear it

No real documentation for these. Genuine receipts from this time, the ink has probably entirely faded by now.

Tube is nice to have, but they've been copied too.

Accurate dimensions of real MP is a good start and printing and paper quality. Do your research, as being a giclee print, it's relatively easily copied.

Some good past threads on this if you can find them.

Good points, except I'm pretty sure it's an offset print. And as with the Di-faced tenner there should be a unique cmyk pattern that is impossible to recreate. Next time I have mine out of storage I will take hi res close-ups as I did with the tenner.

I felt giclee can be a generic term for a digital print, but appreciate the term is probably more specific than that. I don't think you can see a cmyk pattern on them though.

Giclee is pretty much an inkjet print, either home printed or more professional. Offset is not anything you do at home and is normally printed with the four CMYK plates, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK and is not seen as a digital process. it also has the rosette pattern that you won't see in giclee.

You made me check and it's cmyk. I need better light to get better pics, but here's a quick example.

My MP was bought by me at the Banksy vs Bristol Museum. If you don't have the rosette pattern on yours it's not real.

And about the cmyk vs giclee discussion, the reasons you don't do a mass produced poster with giclee is that it takes a lot more time (=cost) and the cost of ink.

The print head of an inkjet has to move back and forth hundreds of times to make one print, while offset is a plate that prints one of the cmyk colours in one go. Times four for each of the colours.

Inkjet only makes sense if you want to fake an expensive poster (such as MP). Or for high value art prints that will cost a lot from the beginning.
