Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by reznyce on Feb 13, 2008 1:55:57 GMT 1, His work is amazing in my opinion. I own three pieces. I love looking at them. But I do think that RP acted in haste here. They should have priced the items lower to allow more people to get to know his work. Take Josh Keyes as an example. Despite his popularity and long waiting lists for his work, he's selling originals for $1500-$5500!! Big mistake on RP's part. There is a catch-22 situation now - RP will get buyers at with these prices, but lowering the prices will not look good either. They do look amazing though - I wish I could afford one.

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by ctc2 on Feb 13, 2008 5:49:45 GMT 1, I like this most recent work more than any that I have seen. However, the prices are too high for me especially as I pay in $'s. Too bad for me, having good taste is hell when you dont have the $ to feed it.

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by manchestermike on Feb 13, 2008 16:25:25 GMT 1, What the hell was all that about!
Jesus... Sorry rhodesy2112 but there was no need to go off like that, marble march was only expressing a view. You can't deny that Guy's work has whiffs of all parts of the "manic depressive, morbid, camp and faintly homoerotic artwork" comment... this doesn't mean that it's bad though.
I like some of Guy's work, not all, and I own one piece, which I happen to think is one of his strongest (that I have seen) and I have no problem with his work being called "manic depressive, morbid, camp and faintly homoerotic artwork"... whether Guy does or not, but like Carlito said you could describe Morrissey the same way...
You should have just let it drop dude... the "insults" (if it is an insult, I don't know) like "giclee boy" make you look stupid... if people want to comment and you want to say something back, make it constructive, pointless insults (was it an insult?) are, well... pointless really

Well ManchesterMike, I was just expressing my opinion. I didn't agree with what he was saying, but more importantly how he was saying it. Maybe if I was a fan of arrogant, prejudiced and faintly homophobic posts, then great...but I'm not

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by BME on Feb 16, 2008 3:38:19 GMT 1, I like Denning but agree that for the money there are other things that I'd rather go for. If I had 4k to spend on an original I'd take a Lister or an Eine any day. Or, if the money had to be spent on prints I'd load up with a few dface Hates and an unigned Jack and Jill - sweet

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by Bram on Feb 14, 2008 13:06:47 GMT 1, Red Propeller has just released this....
"Following the news that Guy has been offered a major one man show by the gallery in LA who recently sold out Nick Walker's exhibition within hours of Bonhams Urban Art Auction together with Bonhams requesting more original works from Guy for the next Urban Art Show in October there has been a surge of activity on the website overnight! Primarily originals to the USA - with many prints selling out within hours of the news."
Also interest from Japan.
May put two fingers up to the anti-denning crew. ;D

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by laing on Feb 14, 2008 13:17:16 GMT 1, That's great news for Guy, I guess the 20-odd years he has put in to this is really beginning to work out for him. I guess it means that the cost of his paintings will be out of our reach (well, most of us anyway).
When is the next Bonhams auction?

Guy Denning π¬π§ New Paintings β’ Neomodern , by romanywg on Feb 14, 2008 13:19:35 GMT 1, Nick Walkers show had 1 original left before the auction. So had absolutely nothing to do with Bonhams. RP get your facts right. The Carmichael is booked up until well into 2009 www.carmichaelgallery.com/future.html so when is the show? "A major one man show". You've all seen the size of the Carmichael Gallery, hardly a major gallery! RP are just finding other ways to sell Guys work. Poor show I say.

you dont get it do you. its not about the art its about how quickly people can make a buck on it. i don't care how quickly the stuff sells out even if it is after 20 years it doesn't make me like it or admire it any more.
but you can carry on believeing & spreading the hype if its what floats your boat

ummmm okay...
Anyway, I would love to see Denning come out this way ;D
