thought I'd share this mornings speed paint with you, about an hour to complete, nice to keep it loose and fluid, speed paints are great for sharpening up reactions!

anyway it's untitled but working title is 'a127' , any one from essex will know it!

it's the beginnings of a new direction for my urban landscapes series,

thanks mate, i used some pics I'd taken from a car as reference, and then sketched these purely in photoshop, they're quite simple really, but seem to be quite effective.... it shows how bad my photography is as the photo is shakey and blurred and that's what I have tried to reproduce in these pieces, adds a sense of movement and is more interesting i think!

anyway, today i have gone back to traditional methods and produced a 24 x 12 inch version, acrylic paint on box canvas, hope you like it!

Loving this Dan, hope you don't mind me saying, but these painted versions have a bit more bite to them, purely digital work can leave a bit to be desired. Some real pangs of Will Barras in there too. You are indeed a talented chap.

no problem mate, i use digital sketches as ways of working out colour schemes and composition first, it's invaluable, they're usually just visuals though. I agree that nothing beats paint on canvases in real life, it's another reason that most of my work is drawn by hand in my sketchbook, so there is a basis in reality, rather than pure digital. I have to say that for my more fantasy type images, like my robots and guardians i love the colour/light effects that are very tricky or impossible to achieve in real life.....

ha ha, well it seems some people have thought the digital paintings are 'traced' photos!!!!!!!!!!!

i can assure them they're not, really can't see the point of doing that!?

thanks, i am assuming you mean the first one, that was the slowest piece to paint, the others have been about half an hour each, the canvas version took longer of course!

This is my first time seeing your work, and I must say that you have some real talent. The sense of motion is incredible, and your use of highly contrasted colors makes for art that really command attention!
