They are based on the photos of the Moors murderers Myra Hindley and Iain Brady. Regarded as the most evil people on earth at the time.
and what you think of kate moss and her boyfriend pete docherty i'll leave up to you.

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by tadghostal on May 11, 2007 20:08:23 GMT 1, Got it. These two never got much (if any) press in the States. I actually thought it might be some photochopped/old pic from Kate Moss.

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by Strange Al on May 11, 2007 20:25:30 GMT 1, I'm a big fan of this Russell Young work. I've been pondering its meaning for days and I'm still undecided what message Russell is trying to convey. I love it when art does that!
Like most of you, I'm currently not sure I'd want them on my wall. Though, I originally said that about Napalm and Toxic Mary and now they're two of my absolute favourite Banksys. Given that I can't afford the Young anyway, I guess it doesn't make much difference if I later decide I'd really love one.

Do like his Sid Vicious though. Incidently Sid would have been 50 years old this week had he lived.

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by gordy on May 11, 2007 21:08:50 GMT 1, Maybe they are a comment on how the two have been treated by the great british press!!
They have both been villified for drug taking to a ridiculous level as if they were evil......maybe not to the lengths of the moors murderers but..... as if they were the only celebs who ever take drugs?
A very haunting image..more for a gallery than your front room I think. But none the less, doing what good art should do and create discussion.

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by romanywg on May 11, 2007 21:16:46 GMT 1, Maybe they are a comment on how the two have been treated by the great british press!! I think it's more likely to be the symbiotic relationships that both couples were in. The relationship between two people in which each person is dependent upon and receives reinforcement, whether beneficial or detrimental, from the other. Sounds like our Kate and Pete. I'm with gordy and think it would be more in keeping in a gallery much like Andy Warhols 'Electric Chair'.

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by gordy on May 11, 2007 21:23:46 GMT 1, Found this comment which I thought was quite accurate,
"Controversial artworks have been produced by artists throughout history that really test the standards of decency in our society. Some parts of society lay scorn and criticism on these works, unable or unwilling to appreciate the artist's vision. It's great that in our free society, artists can create any type work that their talent, means and imagination can come up with, whether it offends certain people or not. "
I don't know what anyone else thinks but the images are truly freaky in a way that you can't get them out of your mind the more you see them!!! I wonder what kate and pete think about them? not too sure that I would like me and my other half loking like child killers??

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by gordy on May 11, 2007 21:34:37 GMT 1, What about artwork by real serial killers!!!
"paintings done in prison by John Wayne Gacy. During the 1970s, Gacy lured and killed at least thirty-three boys and young men, burying most of them in the crawl space beneath his house. While in prison awaiting his execution, which occurred in 1994, his artistic output was prodigious. According to Steve Suo in The Oregonian, he amassed over $100,000 from his artwork"
nice...........

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by corblimeylimey on May 11, 2007 21:36:11 GMT 1, My wife was interested in his Jane Fonda arrest mugshot, but when I found out the price I decided to create my own. I've downloaded the freely available arrest mugshot (only found a smallish one though, if anyone knows were you can find them larger please tell) and I was going to blow it up to 50cm square (for Habitat frame).
I'll apply a course halftone dot in a rich red and get my mate who's got a large format ink jet printer to print it for me (he owes me a favour) and job done for the cost of a frame.
This is the idea, although this is cropped and hasn't quite got the impact as it's smaller

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by gordy on May 11, 2007 22:13:43 GMT 1, Whatever you do don't buy it!!!!
A news item in November 2005 featured Nikki Stone, a musician who purchased a painting of "Pogo the Clown" done by infamous killer John Wayne Gacy, who murdered 33 young men and kept the remains of 29 of them beneath his house. According to Stone, once he acquired the painting for $3000, he was hit with a load of bad luck. His dog died, his mother was diagnosed with cancer, and several associates who agreed to store the work experienced their own brand of negative incidents βaccidents and fires. "I just want to be rid of it," he said to Laurel J. Stewart for the Boston Herald. In the same article, it was noted that actor Johnny Depp had also once acquired a Gacy painting of the same ilk, but had "developed a pathological fear of clowns and had unloaded the artwork.
My name is Earl!! ;D ;D good karma only!!

Russell Young π¬π§ Pop Art β’ Silkscreen β’ New Release, by gordy on May 11, 2007 22:20:39 GMT 1, Found these other artists on wikipedia...
John Wayne Gacy, Richard Ramirez, and Henry Lee Lucas are a few of the better known American serial killer artists... . The actual pieces can sell for large sums of money depending on the individual artist, and their notoriety through serial killing.
Serial killer art need not always be taken seriously. In his autobiography "Final Truth", serial killer Donald Gaskins confesses making carbon copies of Disney characters from magazines and selling them through his lawyer just to gain some money.
Fascinating topic....
