Shepard Fairey
May 01 — May 29, 2010 18 Wooster Street, New York
Deitch Projects is pleased to present May Day, an exhibition of new work by Shepard Fairey, as its final project. Titled not only in reference to the day of the exhibition’s opening, the multiple meanings of May Day resonate throughout the artist's new body of work. Originally a celebration of spring and the rebirth it represents, May Day is also observed in many countries as International Worker's Day or Labor Day, a day of political demonstrations and celebrations coordinated by unions and socialist groups. “Mayday” is also the distress signal used by pilots, police and firefighters in times of emergency.

Shepard Fairey "MAY DAY" Deitch, by BK83 on Apr 26, 2010 21:02:05 GMT 1, I was at the Brooklyn Museum for this discussion yesterday. It was really great. Shep was hilarious. A great story-teller and very well-spoken! Took a couple slight jabs at MBW when discussing the ETTGS. Looking forward to the show at Deitch. Should be an exciting one! This being the last show at Deitch Projects and all... Anyone else from the forum attend the BK Museum talk yesterday?

It's a signed show poster, not really an art print.
The art prints, the portraits, are for sale at the show I believe.

Shepard Fairey "MAY DAY" Deitch, by lifeonwalls on Apr 28, 2010 15:33:58 GMT 1, disappointed at the decision to release the Flag image as 1 print with all four on it...as well as with the text.
would have been soooo much better as just ONE flag. 4 editions of 150 each... oh well.

I wouldnt be suprised if the separate flags get released as actual screenprints without the collage elements. In fact id bet money on it.

Shepard Fairey "MAY DAY" Deitch, by boaty on May 2, 2010 22:34:05 GMT 1, A friend who was there just told me a guy apparently mistakenly fell on and wounded Deitch, who clearly didn't take it well. My friend witnessed the tonguelashing and was well disgusted with Deitch's behavior. I am told the fella was very apologetic and seemed like a nice guy, but Deitch was irate and having none of it.
I guess as this is his last show - the photo ops may have been important for him and a fat lip was not a good fit for the night
Deitch is lucky he was talking that way to a gentle big guy - cause this could have ended badly!

Shepard Fairey "MAY DAY" Deitch, by Happy Shopper on May 2, 2010 23:35:34 GMT 1, That must be so annoying! Biggest night and an accident happens and he has to spend the evening explaining what happened to his face. I can totally understand his anger. I hope it all turned out well in the end though.

Shepard Fairey "MAY DAY" Deitch, by snausages on May 3, 2010 1:47:31 GMT 1, I'll admit that those flags are nice images, but wow, so much hype here.
And I still can't get over Fairey who just two years ago totally jumped on the Democratic party bandwagon, and now he's mr non partisan with his centerpiece "These two parties disgust me?" Does he ever step back and think about what he's doing?
And sure it really sucks for Deitch to be fallen on, but what a mouth on that guy. The big guy should be proud of himself for taking the high road and being so apologetic even while a little twerp was calling him such names.
Deitch looked like kind of a d*ck eh. Reminds me of a time I was at a Deitch opening, really crowded not much room to stand and for some reason Deitch and one of his employees decided to move the front table. They picked the table up and (no exaggeration) slammed it into my leg to push me out of the way. I looked at him like wtf, couldn't you tap me on the shoulder and ask me to move? After seeing that video it all makes sense. I mostly appreciate his eye and he's been great to young alternative artists, but you know what the show's over and good riddance to this power hungry p®*#k. Go play at moca. Time for a new era to begin in NYC.

Shepard Fairey "MAY DAY" Deitch, by nigelbgg on May 3, 2010 4:02:05 GMT 1, Deitch did come off a massive t**t in that video, that guy is huge but obviously very apologetic, he's come with a folder under his arm for prints and is one of the great many OBEY fans that attended the night, no doubt mr high brow high money twatty glasses Deitch frowns upon this kind of collector.

Quite agree. Very big mouth for such a small man. After replying to apologies with insults, I think he was lucky not to get a deliberate black eye to go with the accidental fat lip.

Is he not allowed to change his mind, or be disappointed with what Obama has actually achieved? (or perhaps, more disappointed with the political system?)
