No Ball Games wanted, by Deleted on May 3, 2010 13:19:37 GMT 1, I think it encourages flipping. What is BRPs policy on flipping ?. My personal stance is let everyone do what they want, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, generally, not just with art. anyone have a Joanna newsom ticket they want to flip to me? please.

No Ball Games wanted, by spirit on May 3, 2010 13:25:06 GMT 1, Any gallery that sells secondary market pieces is essentially flipping. Art has a private price and a gallery price and galleries just exploit the difference. It doesn't really bother me and as someone said before, it contributes to a healthy secondary market. I'm not sure the practise really has much effect on private prices, more the gallery price is determined by private price + markup.

Fair play, although if it was one of us doing it peoples reactions would be much different

So obviously BRP don't object to anyone doing the same with any of their releases?

Thanks telsin,
Mike has already contacted me but i'm looking for more than 1850 unfortunately. It's the way buying and selling goes and it happens with cars houses oil and just about every comodity out there buy low sell high. Galleries selling on the secondary market just want to make a profit and good effort in doing so i guess, at least they're dealing in something they love, unlike most stockbrokers and oil barons. sometimes people need to realease funds from assets they had and a fairly reputable dealer like mike i'd have no problem dealing with. Distinctive-vision, fatherxmas et al is, unfortunately, another thing all together...
I'm not in a major rush to sell so am not looking for gallery prices by any means but at the same time am not a mug and won't take the stupid prices being offered by some.

No Ball Games wanted, by Zippy on May 3, 2010 20:45:35 GMT 1, not really. BRP have put on some great shows and introduced us to artists we may not have had the pleasure of seeing/knowing about. They obv have a client looking to buy a NBG who is not comfortable buying off ebay or the forums. I wonder why? Oh yes, 'cos you were flogging pieces on ebay that you thought were fake.

No Ball Games wanted, by Deleted on May 3, 2010 20:53:12 GMT 1, Isn't the jury still yet to fully come back in from the lottery of the TMA Moscow?
I was given the impression that friends of NW allegedly were offered preferential treatment for this 'lottery' (I recall a bloke down the pub called Steve telling me this....).
My personal view is that if BRP are looking to punt one of these on to a captive market then there's many other avenues to investigate prior to purchasing off here. IMO it devalues their brand - at least this is what I'd think if they represented me.

No Ball Games wanted, by rosstierney on May 3, 2010 21:14:09 GMT 1, some of these comments are crazy. brp is a bricks and mortar gallery that subject us to great shows and print releases, all of which would not be possible without finance. anyone selling nbg for ยฃ1,850 is potentially making ยฃ1,350 so put your axes away. i've said it before & i'll say it again, as long as galleries don't low ball, i don't see a problem with them buying on here.

No Ball Games wanted, by Deleted on May 3, 2010 21:37:19 GMT 1, Two points there tho' Ross - one the is the assumed primary buyer making ยฃ1350 (or whatever) from selling to BRP. The other being BRP actively purchasing from the forum.
I've personally no axe to grind but irrespective of the fixed costs of running a gallery I think BRP should be above this. If times are hard then they should re-negotiate the terms of their lease with their landlord. Pretty much every other tenant in Rivington St already has......

haha, or...
I have one, could meet you on friday at say 7pm but could you please wait outside my house in the cold for 18 hours before hand and then ill let you in.
though i might have some rich mates coming around just before so might sell it to one of them, but could you still wait anyway, just in case....
all in jest, BRP do a great job.

Should also add that you will give Mike lots of free booze while he waits and then sell him a few extra prints he didn't really want, leaving him scratch his head about it in the morning...

Haha Yeah! Or.....
I've got one that I'll put up for sale at 6pm but woe betide you if you try and queue up before 2pm so don't travel to London from the west country any earlier than that ok. Only joking, We'll let people queue at any time and then when you do arrive at the time we asked you to arrive there will be no spaces in the queue. Ha fucking Ha!
I'm not bitter about it still, honest

No Ball Games wanted, by afroken on May 4, 2010 23:42:49 GMT 1, It's a no brainer for a gallery like BRP isn't it? You advertise a print you don't have (but is in demand) on your Artnet page (like BRP does with NBG) and wait for someone to bite once a month or so, then come on here. Easy money thanks to the nature of the forums.
