This is the other Sundance film that has me very excited, I'm sure Fragile will agree!
Although Barley wasn't his best work it will be good to see what he has come up with with full control over the project.
Armando Iannucci gave it the thumbs up via twitter with "Yes, Very Yes" which is a good sign in my eyes.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by They call me Stephen on Jan 25, 2010 2:54:04 GMT 1, ^I thought Barley was superb...mocked the whole Shoreditch scene before it properly happened and had so many Banksy references within it. Was thinking only yesterday that I need to watch it again!
Know Fragile is going to see the Chris Morris film over in Sundance so am looking forward to hearing his verdict...the reviews for Morris' latest offering have all been very favourable.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by stenev on Jan 25, 2010 3:09:41 GMT 1, Don't get me wrong, 'not his best work' for Morris is in a different league to most of the tired and formulaic comedy on TV. I was a fan of Brooker's TV Go Home site too, so it was nice to see it realised on screen.
I just used to love Blue Jam and the Day Today so much, I guess it was because Morris onscreen (or on the Radio) is comedy Gold.
Very jealous of Fragile, have a great time and make the most of it !!

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by Grubster on Jan 25, 2010 7:31:54 GMT 1, Banksy isn’t thrilled, concluding that perhaps Guetta isn’t really a filmmaker but “maybe just someone with mental problems who happened to have a camera.” Banksy decides to recut the hours and hours of video, while Guetta travels back to Los Angeles and, in an amazing reinvention, transforms himself into an artist named Mr. Brainwash.
“Mr. Brainwash is a force of nature. He’s a phenomenon. And I don’t mean that in a good way,” Banksy says of his former assistant as he prepares for his first show in Los Angeles.
“Gift Shop” becomes less of a movie about Banksy, his work and his complicated relationship with Guetta and more a study of how we see and appraise art — either through some subjective aesthetic test or economic valuation. Do artists need to earn their fame, or is fame simply imposed upon them through some random algorithm?
seems like he is a bit sour IMO

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by cadeallaw on Jan 25, 2010 7:35:11 GMT 1, I dont' necessarily think that it was a 'laugh' at him and more of an objective view on the whole situation, leaving it up to the movie goer to form their own opinion. MBW didn't 'pay his dues' like other artists, however became successful in an unorthodox manner: "Is Mr. Brainwash’s work derivative and contrived, and who’s to say if it is?"
I look at it as a positive personally

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by dmtr on Jan 25, 2010 7:47:26 GMT 1, Just got back from the premier. It was funny, Banksy came across as a badass, MBW came across poorly, but I didn't Banksy maliciously sought out to hurt him. The footage was spectacular, the message...well...i guess the message was sort of "hype is bad", but it was a nice story about MBW's journey to where he is now. I don;t think it was all honest; I don't think Banksy was entirely truthful about his role in the MBW LA show or his intentions. Banksy says he sent MBW back to america to do a small art show and that Mr Brainwash "left all the footage with him when he left"....and I don't think thats how it went down (but i guess when you are the director you get to tell your own version of history). , I think all of the artists liked MBW and enjoyed his help and documentation of their work, but the film makes it clear the MBW wasn't really a filmmaker. Sorry for the rambling. I liked the film a lot, going back to see it again on Wednesday.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by dmtr on Jan 25, 2010 8:08:52 GMT 1, I don't think so. MBW learned a bunch from Shep and Banksy and the other artists and then on Banksy's suggestion (or so the film says) started making art of his own. I think MBW remains what he is, hit or miss. I thought Banksy was very funny (but i guess you get to be funny when you're calling the shots). I didn't see MBW in attendance, but I did see Morgan Spurlock of Super Size Me Fame (a ron english poster for his doc was seen in the film) and a bunch of nice Banksy fans (maybe the entourage guys were in the back). Very enjoyable evening and I only had to beg for a ticket out in the snow for about an hour.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by stenev on Jan 25, 2010 8:10:08 GMT 1, From the reviews and what we know so far I'd have to concur with dmtr that there is more to the story about the 'deal' that resulted in B getting the footage and MBW getting his big show.
From the sounds of the LA Times review I'd say B though 'Life Remote Control' may have damaged his rep or at the very least ruined some of the mystique or carefully crafted image. Consequently he had to help MBW more than he wanted in order to get the footage back and allow it to be re-edited.
Although it seems like B doesn't come across as trying to intentionally sully MBW's name, I wouldn't put it past him to have just edited and produced very cleverly so as to show MBW for what he really is without seeming like he has an axe to grind.
Can't wait to see it even more now!
Looks like the Shep Bonham video was pretty spot on then..

They used to sell Polygamy Porter t-shirts with the tag line "Take Some Home for the Wives"
