BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by moleman on Jan 23, 2010 13:07:09 GMT 1, My two pence
I would like a mbw print from source and missed the last one, if only to have a spread bet so I can sell something I don't like for good money and buy some thing I like.
What normally happens is hype followed by price hike unless you are a big artist taken on by a big gallery ie faile. Then to a degree it's up to the gallery to help push you to a new realm in price. Since I have collected art one or two artist have boomed and bummed and if you had there art and got in earlyy that was your way into buying bigger names if you were lucky. Mbw will go up no sought (if the film is any good) but I don't think his fall will be that big as he already has a big fan club and for whatever reason they love his art. I look at expresso beans equivelent of get your art out and I was like who and what is this. We have banksy they have brainwash if he is there banksy then well done to those who have his prints for those that slated him then I hope you don't get made if he goes boom. Like banksy mbw is to my knoledge the only other real artist to suceasfully manage there selves and how ever garbage it is you have to take your hat off to him.

I think anyone with an interest in street art will gain
We have had Style Wars,Bombin',Dirty Hands etc,etc and now another long overdue movie about the scene, albeit with a mental twist

He is not our Banksy - But he is "something" however enigmatic that something may be, and many artists spend their whole life trying to be "something" and never get there.
I think the concept of him as an "artist" is much more interesting than his actual art, so to be purely dismissive of him is rather short-sighted. To me the artistic interest lies in the process and commentary his success is generating.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by illu on Jan 24, 2010 23:39:53 GMT 1, ;D ;D ;D
So far I've concluded from this thread that: 1. MBW may or may not be Banksy (probably not) 2. No one who posts here actually knows what the film is definitely going to be about, including people who have footage in the film. 3. Mr Brainwash / Banksy print prices are either going to go up or down after the film is premiered. As I've got the day off work I thought I'd add my thoughts on the film, as someone with no inside information whatsoever: 1. It looks good. I like the idea of seeing what goes on behind the scenes with the putting up street art. I'm not a huge Ron English fan but really enjoyed his documentary. I think this has the potential to be quite self depreciating ie showing that it's just a bunch of imature adults putting up slogans and pictures on walls. The artists can't help doing it and lots people enjoy what they do....the Daily Mail can never get it's head round this. 2. THe MBW story is a hollywood film. It would have been made if Banksy didn't. Here's the pitch: Rich Kid films street artists to get in with Cool Gang who are slightly edgy (but still get permission to put up some street pieces), Rich Kid then decides he must become part of the cool gang and signs the cheques to make it happen, Cool Gang get a bit annoyed but also see the funny side. They make a film about it and everyone lives happy ever after. Cast: Banksy: Christian Bale Shepard Fairey: Daniel Craig Mr Brainwash: John Belushi (CGI reconstruction) Angelie Jolie & Brad Pitt: Play themselves buying a Banksy Canvas Exit Through The Gift Shop 2 already scripted: Cast: Banksy: Cartrain Cartrain: Silky Silky: Steve Lazirides Soundtrack: Susan Boyle Predictions how this thread might go once the film is shown: 1. Do you think a signed print will come with the DVD (plus a seperate thread with 40 pages of highs, lows, sales and framed pictures). 2. Someone will have a go at Silky about something. 3. Someone will be trying to sell a MBW print for more than they bought it for. With all that, keep the speculation coming! One thing I would ask if people start posting about what's in the actual film can Silky or a moderator put SPOLIERS in the subject header. I want to see the film without knowing what's in it.

BANKSY Film "Exit Through The Gift Shop", by twist65 on Jan 25, 2010 1:23:41 GMT 1, apparently the folks on wooster collective have already seen it. wonder who else?
I wonder, if MBW is largely accepted as a bona fide artist in the States (whether people actually like his art or not), and the film does unmask some sort of 'career masterminded by Banksy as some sort of cultural experiment/joke' twist, how will this affect the Stateside perception of Banksy and in turn other British street artists? This side of the pond people will be undoubtedly laughing their heads off, but if B isnt the household name in the States I can't see it going down so well. If I had been hoodwinked into the whole MBW thing, kind of treated like an idiot, it would turn my apathy towards the UK scene into mistrust/complete dislike. It might make it even harder for the likes of D*Face etc to establish themselves? Shep seems to have totally distanced himself from the whole thing, maybe he knows its gonna hit the fan, so is protecting his fanbase?
