DFACE SHOW - Lots of Pictures., by neutral on Mar 31, 2007 13:22:07 GMT 1, No offense to anybody liking his stuff as well as him but is it just me or Dface seems to duplicate a lot of the work that we can find into other artist pieces from the same movement/group ? I mean from Banksy (flag vs death and glory), Ron English (Warhol vs Marylin and Che), Insect (Dead Rebel vs Lenon and Kurt), now the fly posters with a Faile influence/more and so on... I am aware that a lot of artists find inspirations into other people work and throw that back into their own way and it is fine. It is somehow the nature of most but I just think it is a bit of a shame when it seems to happen in the same sort of group or movement. Maybe and possibly it is me missing the point here but somehow it is how I do feel with the majority of his work.

DFACE SHOW - Lots of Pictures., by neutral on Mar 31, 2007 13:38:33 GMT 1, Dont get me wrong Maccamcd, my post was not against you or your recent purschase at all. If you do like something and can affoard it you will be fool to do not buy. With Dface work it is somehow how I do feel, weither he is influenced by "the best" it could be a long debate on that one but let us say that art is like music and whatsoever I find good might not be the case for you as the other way round.

DFACE SHOW - Lots of Pictures., by romanywg on Mar 31, 2007 13:39:15 GMT 1, I think we've got some crossed swords here Curley. This is a Dface post. The Aquarium is tomorrow at 3-5 and the last photo was a sculpt I have done for the Aquarium show which just so happened to be from the same original bust that Dface has customised. Does that make sense? You going tomorrow. April 1st!?

DFACE SHOW - Lots of Pictures., by reados on Mar 31, 2007 17:45:16 GMT 1, i agree with some of the comments that say he is similar to other artists, its his view on things which is his individuality. Some artist choose to paint landscapes and each artist can paint the same spot in the english countryside, and produce totally different results. So d*face does his own take on similar political and topical subjects to other artist, but the quality of his work and the process in which he creates theses images and what he finally ends up with are his strengths.
look at the list of originals that are on show at the exhibition and the descriptions, he's worked hard using interesting media to produce some stunning pictures.
i managed to grab a che this morning from the gallery, its got gold leaf applied, 8 colour screen print and varnishing, sounds good to me with out even seeing it in the flesh.
just my opinion on this matter

DFACE SHOW - Lots of Pictures., by neutral on Mar 31, 2007 18:27:31 GMT 1, The fact that it seems so similar and I mean "so" to others put me in the situation of not wanting to know more about the work really. And if I will look into it unfortunately it will be with that shifted view on 98% of his work. When it comes down to the use of media : screenprint, gold leaf, stitching... is it really interesting ? Again maybe I am missing the point here?
Anyway, the most important thing is that you love what you bought so enjoy it when in hands...

I have just had a look at the photos I had taken of the queue and I cant spot ya Maybe when I get the video done I might have got you in the battle for the prints inside ;D
BTW - Does anyone know who that was that jumped the queue? Short bloke and his girlfriend (red head, long hair) walked past about an hour before the show, came back about ten to six and stood near the door and pushed infront of us when we went in I know thinking back I should have said something, but I aint the sort to speak up to people Im a bit shy really We had been waiting in the rain for around and hour and a half

DFACE SHOW - Lots of Pictures., by romanywg on Mar 31, 2007 23:50:45 GMT 1, Didn't notice them. The guy infront of me let two people in too. He said they were going to buy originals, which they did, so wasn't too bothered as they weren't buying prints. Forgot to mention. Lots of freebies too. DFace flyers, Face Lift stickers and playing cards scattered all over the floor.

Shame it wasnt a ball pool where we could have all climbed inside!! with mini Dbomber balls in there!
Wicked show none-the-less!

I remember back when the 360 was launched I queued with some others in a shopping mall. Some gits walked straight to the front trying to give the impression they worked at the store. Some woman behind me challenged them and a row erupted. Security came and kicked one guy away but they left two, why I don't know. Maybe they knew them. But they deprived two people a console who'd spent hours queuing. Apparently some lads tried it on when my lass queued to get me a Wii, but she stood her ground and told them where to go. ;D She also got the 'last' Wii that day. (the one I'm selling to get my Banksy framed. ) But she's cool about it. ;D
Sorry for going off topic.
