Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by Deleted on Jan 2, 2009 20:47:30 GMT 1, Hi there, this is the first time I've started a thread, but it's really bugging me...
I was lucky enough to bag a Bethlehem in the PoW Open Day raffle and I'm chuffed to bits with it. It will be getting framed and should be up on the wall in early Feb.
This print has provoked quite a bit comment and from the on-forum sales, it seems to be that most people think it's great, but maybe not one for their walls.
However, there's been very ltitle chat about the print's counterpart 'Lovemaker'. For me, it's a cracking print. PoW managed to elate and then disappoint me in the space of a few hours. I received a mail saying I'd won a Lovemaker as well - I even paid for it - only to receive a later mail saying I should ignore the Lovemaker mail as it had been sent in error. Oh well - as long as they've refunded my card then I guess it's hard to complain. Maybe I'll be lucky ebnough to land one on the secondary market at some point.
... but what about everyone else? What do you think of Lovemaker? With none being offered on the forum, does that mean it's a keeper for everyone? Or did very few of us end up with one?
(Oh, and Happy New Year to everyone!)

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by poppysunshine on Jan 2, 2009 20:59:44 GMT 1, Can't decide really. I bought Nola, VLH and Bethlehem on the secondary market and must say I'm really really pleasantly surprised by all of them. They have all translated far better in the flesh than online. However, the lovemaker image just didn't grab me enough to make me want to get one unseen. I'm sure it will be great but can't make my mind up without seeing one first hand.

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by kennas on Jan 2, 2009 21:07:57 GMT 1, I think the lack of chat is quite simple really. It was probably 5th or 6th best release of the open day, it's natural people will discuss there favs more. Behind VLH, bethlehem, eelus, bast, vhils, etc...

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by Deleted on Jan 2, 2009 21:21:07 GMT 1, Kennas, I was in the PoW shop on the Sunday of the open weekend and had a really good look at the bast, vhils and eelus. I ended up not buying anything, and the only one I regret not buying is the eelus. Oh well ... but I keep looking at Lovemaker. For me, there is something special about it.

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by Deleted on Jan 2, 2009 21:26:30 GMT 1, I think not many forum members have got one, also a few pepole slated the print a few weeks ago so they might not see any point in talking about the print just in case they get loads of negative comments, also i think the forum members that did manage to get one might have been busy with Xmas and new year, they also might not feel the need to share the purchase until they have it framed, basically i don't know for the record i like the image and I'm happy with the size of the hand.

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by pezlow on Jan 2, 2009 21:42:56 GMT 1, I think it's a pretty weak print. Surprised that POW decided to release this image as a print given some of micallef's other charcoals.

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by dodge on Jan 5, 2009 20:45:25 GMT 1, I thought both lovemaker and Bethlehem were both awful choices for prints. Cool to look at in a book or a gallery but not to hang on the wall! A bit scary methinks....

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by mfly on Nov 12, 2015 19:58:49 GMT 1, Any thoughts on Micallef's work & their drop in prices from what they were new? I have 7 of his work...Uzi lover 1 & 2, Improvised Minotaur, Lovemaker, Bethlehem, In god we trust & Friendly Fire! I enjoy them all but they haven't been the investment I hoped they also would be when purchasing!

Is this OK or must I write more? )

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by matt on Nov 12, 2015 21:01:56 GMT 1, Goes to show those who think they are "investing" should get a bit of perspective, and confirms those who bought what they like at least have something they like...
I do my own any Micallef but always thought his stuff was good.
Are his larger canvases getting anything near reasonable or still big dough (probably the latter but hey, I can dream of getting a huge cheap OG until someone puts me right)

Prints - arse fell out of them a long time ago. Some beautiful work too, but it is hard to convince someone that paid £4k+ for a 21st Century Love that they'd be lucky to get £1.5k these days

Micallef Lovemaker - lack of chat?, by matt on Nov 12, 2015 21:23:35 GMT 1, Thought so.
Too bad because his really large pieces really made an impression on me so would not say no to owning one someday...
