David Choe at Laz on Feb 28th, by verbalkint on Dec 15, 2007 2:12:25 GMT 1, first of all you need to make sure you get an invite to the preview. Then when you get there you realise that damian hirst or some other fuckwit has bought the entire show or in choes case they will probably go to steve laz' best customers as they will get first dibs. Its safe to assume the show will be a preview sell out regardless so the chances of getting a discount off the asking price of any piece is virtually nil. The only thing some galleries will do is do a cash deal and avoid the VAT, but most wont. If a show is not at all popular then you might get a deal here and there but i doubt very much that will happen at this show.
My advice is to expect to pay Β£10,000 for a decent sized choe piece and less if he does smaller pieces. If you can afford them the bigger pieces in shows are always much better value. If you see a piece you like for Β£10k but only have Β£7k, but can get the other Β£3k together pretty fast you can have a word with them and pay it over a little bit of time, but you need to ask first.
Laz are funny, sometimes their prices at shows are outragously high, sometimes they are really reasonable in my opinion. I dont think the choe stuff will be as high as it could be, which will see it sell out really quick i reckon, but i am usually wrong

David Choe at Laz on Feb 28th, by EHC on Dec 15, 2007 17:29:49 GMT 1, Thanks for the info verbal. I guess you guys are right, no discounts on a hot property. These are probably goin to be out of my price range anyways unless he offers smaller works. My pick would be the machine gun he painted on the door, nothing crazy but I just like it. The top piece is pretty damn cool too. I like em all really except the 4th ones down. Just saw on his blog that hes working with Pharrell now too. I know he collects KAWS, I wonder if he has any Choes.

David Choe at Laz on Feb 28th, by melmoth on Dec 15, 2007 17:49:18 GMT 1, Talking of Choe, there is a piece of his which he gave to a film director friend of his to sell discussed on his blog:
davechoe.blogspot.com/
The director is inviting offers in excess of $15,000 between now and December 22nd. It seems to have Choe's stamp of approval. Nice piece.

And after looking at his blog I'm even more unimpressed. Takes all kinds I know, I'm sure some people dig this aspect about him, but myself I can't get into the blingy bling chingy ching I make more money than god and I'm such a crazy beeeeyotch I'm so living on the edge I'll sleep wherever and don't even own my own home blah blah. Yawn. How old is this guy?

David Choe at Laz on Feb 28th, by partypooper on Dec 16, 2007 22:43:42 GMT 1, who knows, but I agree. He's kind of a choad. I have his City Girl 76, Hell Houndz 76, and Soundeyes 76 only because I thought it was cool that he hand touched them.
