Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by flatcap on Nov 1, 2007 18:47:10 GMT 1, This Banksy artwork is now for sale. It is the frontage to a fairground ride called the Mystic Swing which has attended festivals and green fairs for the past few years. Please contact mysticswing@hotmail.co.uk or see www.mysticswing.co.uk for pictures.
Also: wet.panit.co.uk/fairground.php?imageref=3
...and google "Mystic Swing" as a phrase, ignoring the Porter movie of the same name.
Sensible offers only, can deliver.
I'm not actually on the internet and use the local library for a connection so please dont expect an immediate response.
Be lucky!

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by fecam on Nov 1, 2007 19:26:43 GMT 1, Interesting, but I can see 2 problems:
1. It's huge! 2. It's not the style usually associated with Bansky (ie it's not stencil based). Does it have a Banksy tag anywhere (this will be key to adding value)
Better pic here:

I've seen it at Glastonbury a few times.. it's awesome.
Think you ought to go to Sotherbys though to get what it's worth. Not sure any of us plebs have the space or money!
Send Robbie Williams an email... he could stick it over the entrance to his driveway!

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by flatcap on Nov 2, 2007 1:46:02 GMT 1, The ride, so far as I can trace and chassis-wise, is approximately 30 years old having passed through the Woodford and Bambini families at points. It has had numerous alterations over the years and I can provide two different art guises from years past.
The chassis was, apparently, from a farmers drawbar trailer with the machine built on top. "Originals" (1920/30's) were ground-built on A-Frames (fairly cutting-edge for the time) before latter models were trailer-built - which obviously cut down on build-up/ pull down times.
As to the current arwork, it was finished circa summer 2000, a collaboration between Banksy and the celebrated fairground artist Dave "W.E.T." Panit - wet.panit.co.uk/home.htm
Around 35 of these rides were travelling in the 70's. This particular show is the only one remaining travelling in England hand-turned, with another hydraulically-powered oop north and (possibly??) an example in Scotland.

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by morrissey1 on Nov 2, 2007 1:52:37 GMT 1, do you think that possibly the size of this work may actually hurt its value? realistically, it's not going over anyone's fireplace....hard to picture it in your house, not that I wouldn't want it.

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by scoote on Nov 2, 2007 11:57:48 GMT 1, It may be an average piece of graf, but if you look closely you can see traits of Banksy's now recognised style, which makes it an important piece. The top right hand corner you can see a t.v. whcih looks like it is being thrown, excuse my knowledge but this looks similar to the t.v. coming out of the window piece, and also I believe there is a character in the central part in a gas mask that also looks familiar, all be it less stencilled and more freehand.

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by flatcap on Nov 3, 2007 19:31:08 GMT 1, Eyup all,
In no rush to sell, I'm just thinking that, as the work got slightly damaged this year (sometime whilst I was asleep at a festival) I'm not willing to travel this anymore. Believe me, I think it's a shame. But, I'm not rich and am looking for the cash to buy my "safe haven" as promised by thatcher (I'm not going to put a capital "t" on the start of that word) for my family,
Anyway, I'm not having some pissed up prat playing ping-pong with his head (my friend witnessed this one and politely told him to "go away") with the artwork, nor an imbecile with a cosworth collide with it on a roundabout (close one, that) so it's got to go.
Additional information is that the art was finished in the summer of 2000 with the very able assistance of the very talented Dave Panit who did the lettering (http://wet.panit.co.uk/fairground.php) and is thought to be Banksy's only foray in to fairground art - please correct me if I'm wrong!! Additionally, rather than stencill this is freehand which is (ahem) a bit rare.
All the best moi 'ansomes!

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by milleniumhut on Nov 5, 2007 12:26:18 GMT 1, This is a classic one-off. I've just noticed the sinister looking chaps. There's one on the inside as you enter and another on the reverse side with green and red circles behind. They look like they could be stencils. What do you think? Probably not, but just to add abit of mystery.

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by flatcap on Nov 5, 2007 19:17:54 GMT 1, To answer a couple of questions above:
Yep, the ride works and I shall be swinging people mystically at festivals and green fairs next year, yelling at everyone in the normal fairground style. And it's definately worth a pop, though I say so myself, as veryfied by lots of differently starry-eyed folk depending on what doo it's at.
It does have a Banksy tag and I'm currently getting it authenticated to ease the cynics minds.
The "chaps" are being included as part of the lot. "Chaps" - love the phrasing milleniumhut!
It is fairly big, roughly 6m x 3.5m, which I can see is a problem for some folk. If I had somewhere to put it I wouldn't be selling it. Ho hum, anyone got Brad Pitt's number?
trebor, at that price it's yours. You'll get some luck money back on that too.
The work does have to go though and you can but offer. Me, I reckon it's a great bit of art and a good investment.
You can but offer...

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by stillborncrisps on Nov 5, 2007 22:46:53 GMT 1, What a fab, unique thing. People seem to diss older stuff coz there's no stencils, but it's important coz you can see the evolution of his style. That piece he did for Walls On Fire in '98 (surgeons operating on some graff) was such a cool concept, and then a more developed one turned up years later at the LA show (police wrestling with a piece of graff).
But this needs to go via auction house I reckon. They sometimes have buyers in the wings who'll pay a pretty penny before it even goes to auction. Worth trotting it round Sothebys, Bonhams, Christies for sure.

Banksy • The Mystic Swing, by pastiepie on Nov 6, 2007 2:00:47 GMT 1, I think some of the auction houses would be interested in such a unique piece. Maybe try Andipa, they'll take anything Banksy.
The problem I see is obtaining provenance from Laz, without it you'll only get a fraction of it's true worth. Laz has been known to buy back older Banksy items and even help sell them for people, you may be in luck.
