Banksy • Parliament Square • Brian Haw, by Fast Eddie on Dec 26, 2020 23:00:58 GMT 1, There are no Banksy works in the permanent collection of any major UK museum. There is the tenner in the coin collection of the British Museum, the 2018 and 2019 entries of the RA, but that's about it I believe. I think most curators recoil at the idea of recognizing it as art.

Kudos to the head of the numismatist department at the British Museum.

I would think in post covid times if a museum started to show Banksy works then it might be queued out the door for weeks on end. Maybe start in Bristol and see how it goes?

I wish you were right, but I don't think so. Museums exhibit plenty of anonymous work.
It's just that Banksy is not part of the canon of contemporary art. Many experts diminish his work as derivative and superficial, e.g.: www.nytimes.com/2020/02/05/arts/design/banksy-legacy.html
In the 2010's they just did not care. In the 2020's it validates some curators' intellectual sophistication to reject something so popular. We need to wait for the next wave of innovative critics to "rediscover" Banksy.

it is pretty crap, reminds some of the newspaper funnies. very lowbrow
Doesn't really fit with slashed canvasses or a floor full of peanut shells, or even previously used soaps all on a bit of string
