Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by Heavyconsumer on Mar 25, 2008 6:43:33 GMT 1, still no joy. I'm sorry Ad Hoc, I won't be switching web browsers so I guess your site's off limits to me! I was able to see the thumbnails of Lady Pink's work, but not much else. Some nice pics on the Juxtapoz link.

Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by Guest on Mar 25, 2008 18:27:17 GMT 1, When I look at these originals I wonder why she has been watering her image down with the most recent prints POW etc. The detail on Lady Pink 1 b**ch slaps City Girl 150 IMO well maybe not b**ch slap but ... .
You did know that Aiko and Lady Pink were 2 different artist's, right? From the note above it seems as if you're wondering why Aiko doesn't do such nice artwork for her POW releases... There are 2 answers if I may:
1. Aiko doesn't paint nearly as well as lady pink. Not to say she's not as good at all. In fact in many ways she's much more perceptive, BUT her painting skills are eclipsed by Lady Pink in this show.
2. Look at the detail and the color management on this piece that you posted. Do you think that POW would print something like that? It's EXTREMELY hard to get a 30-60 color silkscreen printed, and you need a lot of very skilled labor to get it done well enough to make a good representation of the original image. Registration and Color alone would make this image a nightmare to piece together. It would take months to print, and thinking in terms of price per screen, may easily put the edition cost well over the artist's capability to sell at the required price. There are very few artist's whose prints can dictate that type of cost and attention. I think they're better off focusing on the simple imagery (like Banksy) and continuing to introduce affordable prints to the market. Seems that they have developed this business model and reputation very well as it is.
...just my .02. Take it for what it's worth.

My bad honestly thought that was the name of the piece..

Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by Guest on Mar 25, 2008 19:28:41 GMT 1, It is a fantastic piece of art though, isn't it? Her style is eerily familiar to other styles in contemporary Latin American art; social realists like Kingman, but even more so the magical surrealism of Gonzalo Endarra Crow and many other Latin Americans. Why is that so eery? She was born in Ecuador, but never lived there, and was raised and lives in NYC... Could you call that a genetic pre-disposition as expressed through art?
I love her work.

Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by Ad Hoc Art on Mar 26, 2008 3:39:34 GMT 1, Also...Juxtapoz magazine has a major article/interview about AIKO in the new issue which is just starting to surface out in the world now...here is one except from the article which i thought was interesting and very powerful...
"Aiko Nakagawa could be bitter, seek revenge, start a war, or call somebody out. In our estimation, she has every right. A founding and now former member of the super-popular, Brooklyn-based art collective, Faile, Aiko no longer reaps the financial benefits from what we can can tell, never received much-deserved accolades and recognition for helping establish the aesthetic that makes Faile one of the most sought after and valued collectives in contemporary art. If attention had been payed, Aiko would universally been known as one of the most influential female artists relevant today." -written by Evan Pricco in Juxtapoz, April 2008 issue #87

Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by mainartery on Mar 26, 2008 13:44:23 GMT 1, I agree with this extract... I think Aiko probably established the Faile look and characterized the images into the icons we know to be faile images today.
If you look at the work before she joined it was very static, would i dare to say poor. The personality in the work didn't arrive till Aiko joined the collective. Also since she left 'apart from the remix prints, which she would have worked on' the faile images have been very poor and don't seem to carry the magic anymore, where Aiko recent work does.
AIKO blows faile away INHO
