Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by meatbag on Oct 4, 2007 3:02:23 GMT 1, hey meatbag - how do the bunny canvasses look in the flesh? ps Josh mentioned that someone had bought the Lindas!
i think the bunnies looked great. I had a hard time deciding. I really liked the super large bunny but felt I really don't have the room for it so I went for the Lindas because I was looking for smaller pieces. What's nice about the bunnies is the crossover factor from Faile to Aiko. Dirt devils look way better in person with tons of little details and textures but the wife didn't dig those sooo I went with the Lindas and all her fun bags.

Figured I'd give a heads up to people who are looking for something a bit more subtle (as they appear in the pics) or to people who like shiny things.

Not that I am unhappy with the originals I purchased, but I was hoping to watch her carrer grow. does anyone thing she will have a rebirth?

Can see her influence in older Faile stuff but not sure where shes gone/going with her solo stuff.
Just my 2p worth!

Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by snapwolfe on Nov 2, 2007 1:58:56 GMT 1, She sold out a brooklyn, ny exhibit with bast (which he did not sell out) in less than an hour in presale. i have now seen 4 pieces from that show sitting on ebay for extended periods of time with no sale. an original from the show (listed by another forum member) is up there now for $1500 dollars, with no bites. She has a show that just came down in philidelphia, pa with lackluster sales. she had a show in spain in which nothing sold (as of when i had requested a pricelist) for prices of 2-3000 euros. there have been a few bunny prints (from a run of 6 and 8 varied editions (respectively) that did not sell past their set reserves. Again.... i love the work. keeping mine. but are people not sharing this view? is she not creating enough buzz? maybe ill make it my mission to be her cheerleader....even if she doesnt answer my emails. go aiko! ra ra ree!

I'd suggest waiting, her prices are based on Faile prices, she's been riding in Failes wake since she departed and she's been lucky to sell what she has IMO, it's just not there, the work doesn't stand up when compared to most other people doing well. No amount of PR will make the work better... she just seems to be floaring around. Bad stencil work, pseudo Faile'ish backgrounds, meaning is everywhere and nowhere, colours, composition... everything seems unbalanced compared to Faile. Needs a break and a new direction maybe..

Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by sham69 on Nov 2, 2007 10:20:37 GMT 1, I went to the Aiko show at Adhoc. The stuff there was cheap as chips. The pieces that turned up on the 'bay afterwards were massively more expensive. Plus the stuff from Iguapop was in another price bracket again. Personally, I don't think she's doing anything out of the ordinary. There's only so much appeal a Bunny can have. Bit feminine for me.

Unfortunately, that statement only takes you so far . . . Look at it in reverse. I'd really like a nice Jose Parla, am I going to pay Β£25k? no.

Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by absyrd on Nov 2, 2007 11:25:05 GMT 1, It must be hard for her, though. She helped create Faile's style. If she goes off on her own and does the exact same thing, people will hate on her. I'm sure it puts pressure on her to differ herself and possibly hurts the work.

Lady Aiko π―π΅ Aiko Nakagawa β’ New York Street Art, by robo on Nov 2, 2007 11:46:24 GMT 1, I actually rather like Aiko's stuff - she's got some nice stencils and some strong, bold, colourful pieces. I've got a work on a blue wooden door (Fiesta from her NYC show that I went to) on my wall and I love it; its quirky, celebratory, a bit crazy.
I think one 'mistake' she made (and this might say more about us than her) is not to do more quality prints with someone like POW. Definitely her POW stuff was weak and, before i'd seen her other work, it totally put me off her.
(By the way i tried to email her too, but got an error - does anyone have the right address for her?)

Have to agree though with the POW prints being simply OK, that was followed up by a bunny thing that Faile had done better, Kozyndan have a similar fetish...whats with the fluffy rodent???!! and the Giclee print was simply candy. IMO she needs a strong come back to this and I think she most certainly has the talent to do so....just like Morrisey

The point is that the two boys of Faile kept what she brought to the group but she can't decently make some "Faile" style on her own. That's logical but quite unfair... Go go Aiko ! ;D
