You and pez both make the point that I should go read a book. But look at what I actually wrote, the first thing I did when I saw that print was go and read about Jasper Johns before posting on here. I won't apologise for never having been exposed to his work before now, I wasn't going to learn about it by bloody osmosis!
As skanky says, part of the point is surely to bring him to a new audience, and thats whats happened with me. Still not mad about his work but thats purely my taste (or lack thereof!).

and for what it's worth, I did see that episode of the Simpsons, probobly when it first aired about 10 years ago. You'll have to forgive me if at 11 years of age I didn't register who Jasper Johns was, even if I could have been capable of absorbing every piece of information that flitted accross my tv screen.

I don't care "what you know and don't know," I did not criticize you for not knowing about Johns. What I did care about and questioned was the idea that you aren't responsible for what you know. If all that you meant is that you can't do anything about the past, then I apologize for the misunderstanding but the wording was confusing.
And the bit about the simpsons was a joke, and an excuse to post that clip, obviously nobody can remember everything on tv
