Banksy • Flag GOLD, by turkey on Jan 18, 2008 15:13:48 GMT 1, gozgo, I bet had you gone to Bethlehem, found out you couldnt get a print, you would have been well pissed off. After all that is the reason why you went there, and to use the "experience" as some sort of justification, for your tripe, quite honestly doesnt wash with me. I know I went to Bethlehem to visit the Ghetto, to get a print or 2 and to put some bids in, because that was the only way for me to do it. What I didnt expect was the "experience", and yes ultimately, that has been the most memorable aspect of the trip. So admit you went to get a print and lets move this conversation forwards
Spot on Alsbabar....spot on.....

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by ejvaze on Jan 18, 2008 15:28:26 GMT 1, A little Sad to see this being Flipped so quickly and all the bickering it has caused.
There are some good points on this thread Gozgoz has a very good point as does alsbarba and I subscribe to the same view as BONGO has.
PUT the PRICE UP TO 3 MILLION as far as I am concerned because in the end it is not the monetary value but what it was all about. The Experience. Some people such as my husband feel they have had a life changing experience.
Someone has said as I was the first to go I missed out and did not get the whole 'Bethelhem vibe' because loads of things were done after I'd gone home and I had stayed in Tel Aviv. Yes I did stay in Tel Aviv as many who went did and I do know the person who said this to me was NOT being nasty just sorry that I did not see all the GREAT art left on the wall out there.
BUT I got the MOST IMPORTANT point and that was the futility of these two peoples fighting over a piece of land and the pain and suffering it has and is causing. Staying in Tel Aviv did in fact bring it home to me the difference between that city and Bethlehem which was remarkable and less than an hrs drive away from each other too. This is a land of devision and stupidity one does not listen to another.
SO I may have missed out on the Artistic 'Bethelhem vibe' but I went initially for Banksy and in doing so learned a lot about his ideals and very importantly saw for myself the place and met some of the people.
It was quite an experience arriving in the middle of the Hamas celebrations for the release of prisoners by Israel. To experience and feel the presence of so many young men who filled Manger Square with their exuberance and excitement. The sight and smell of fireworks being let off in the middle of the day, the sound of load music and men shouting from the back of open back trucks and cars filled to the brim, waving Flags. Huge banners of Arafat hanging from buildings in the square and the sound of bullets being fired into the air.
For me as a woman it was an interesting spectacle. I didn't meet many Palestinian Women, those I met on the night were very well dressed, in a Western way, and quiet and reserved. I had a sense of stepping into a Mans World.
And in my opinion women need to stand up and maybe take a bigger part in trying to solve this awful situation as mothers and wives.
SO Yes it is for me a sad day seeing this Flag print go on sale so quickly but something inevitable I suppose.
My Flag? I'd bite your head off if you ever asked me if I was going to sell it. It will take pride of place in my home.
THANK YOU BANKSY without you I would never have gone

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by alsbabar on Jan 18, 2008 15:38:43 GMT 1, let me ask those who have been to Bethlehem, what have you actually done to show further support to the cause, other than go out there, buy print/bid on art?
I posted a thread on here about a project that is taking place right now in the heart of Bethlehem, which I support, donate to and subscribe to, it disappoints me that only 3 people have taken the time to respond to it and the thread goes further down the reading list.

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by wezzley on Jan 18, 2008 15:43:23 GMT 1, hi vaz..to share a similar though less joyous experience, I got caught up in a funeral in manger square...a guy had been assasinated just before and the spontenious funeral filled the square with hundreds of mourners....I thought i was on the sidelines till they carried over the dead body & put it just a few few feet away from me.....so experienced the entire thing from the thick of it...I couldnt have got any closer to the troubles if I had tried....it was one of the most memorable and haunting thngs I will ever experience. I must admit that for a short moment as tempers got out of hand I was s**tting myself bigtime, although I needent have worried.. anyways....the direction of mecca happened to be towards me, probably why they put the body there - so it ended up out into hundreds facing me in rows & rows all falling to their knees multiple times...the grief of the people and thunderous sound of thousands of mourning knees hitting concrete in synchrony will forever reverberate in my memory...

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by mammal2 on Jan 18, 2008 17:21:10 GMT 1, mammal 4K is the price people who didnt go would like to pay for it - if i had one i wouldnt sell it
I agree! I would love to pay 4k for it. Why wouldnt I? I just dont understand why you say 14k is a great price? Gold Flag - 14k is rather stupid, and quite far from being a bargain. If one were to come up I would buy at 4, but then hopefully it wont happen as people will love theirs and keep them for the memory of going to the Ghetto. As you have one, and may possibly sell it, its in your interest to say its worth 14k, but as a good handful on here may want to pick one up as they couldnt go and they want another banksy why state 14k as some sort of steal? Its frankly bulls**t and a number picked out of the air. Maybe the formica will reach these prices as they were 5k each, but this one i doubt. Anyway, who gives a s**t. It appears that all the threads on this board are about honking the prices of their pieces up anyway. Fair play, its a free market, and i sell prints now and then, but i miss the days of talking about Banksy and his work and threads that dont start with "...My Gold Flag that i got someone to buy for me for 500 squids now 85k - What a bargain Bulls**t". Lets see some pics of them framed up looking great. For the record if i had one and they were selling for 14 i would sell, because my friends thats just f**king stupid and you could pick up many, many unsigned for that. But, whatever...

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by jonpud on Jan 18, 2008 18:18:35 GMT 1, I have been reading this thread with interest and a mix of sadness and almost laughter!
Here's my tuppence worth!
It is pretty obvious that this is a valuable print, when all said and done it took a lot of effort to get, and many of us either couldn't afford to go, or work/personal stopped us or we just couldn't be bothered.
Those that have the print are bound to big it up, lets face it, how many of them truely went to experience the problems of the Middle East and how many went to get a rare Banksy and have one up on the other collectors, and how many went just to make a buck? I would suggest that the majority went for the last two reasons, but then got an experience of life they didn't expect!?
I wanted to go desperately, I have never been to Santa's Ghetto, and I wanted one of these Flag prints. Whilst I was there I would have taken advantage to learn a bit about the area and to take time to see the wall art. Sadly I didn't want to go for ALL the right reasons, only some of them! Ultimately work commitments prevented me going anyway. I have to say that had I got a flag print it would have stayed with me for the rest of my life subject to financial situation allowing so.
Anyway, who gives a flying f**k what it's worth, they should never be sold, they are different from any other Banksy for an unusual reason and should be kept by their owners!
If I was pushed into an ugly position of guessing exactly what they are worth then I would only be able to guess. I certainly don't beleive they are worth £14K, I wouldn't even pay that for a formica edition, I would gamble on them being 5-7K Lets face it, it was never the most desired of Banksy's images, there are 1000 out there in silver, we don't know if they are signed on the front or the back which will also make a difference!
I enjoyed reading the threads about individuals experiences over xmas when they got back from Bethlehem, I also had a great deal of respect for those who got off their arses went out there and then enlightened us with their personal experiences. But all this bulls**t over value!? It's Bollocks and in this instance turns my stomach!!
Opinion is the spice of life!

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by mammal2 on Jan 18, 2008 19:27:11 GMT 1, I agree! But, whatever... mammal while it is in someones interest to push the price up because they have one, it is obvious your interest will be to push the price down, because you dont have one and 14K is a bargain if someone is prepared to pay for it.
Of course I want one. Its a Banksy. Its the reason I have been on this board pretty much everyday for two years and the reason i have eight Banksy on my wall (with the help of many great members here). I love the image, and a Gold flag would be awsome. I wanted to go, but my girlfriend was going to take my balls, so i decided i needed them, plus i thought it unwise as with my mentality on a J20 i would get shot in the head. I think whoever went is a legend and the print is a great reminder (especially the end paper trolley), but how in the 3rd sphere of darkest hell is this worth 14k as a rare colourway. Oh, right some monkey posted his for 14k so thats the market price and now anything like that price is a bargain. Sorry, but i am of the opinion that that is rubbish. Remind me but wasnt the flag on sale last month. I forget. I know you had to go on an amazing adventure to get the print, but if a flag sells for 14k on ebay in the next 6 months ill let you chop off my balls at a Gallery opening. Many, many people would love to own one here and put it on their walls till they go grey with age. True, they could have gone and boo hoo, they didnt for whatever reason. Its just not a reason to rob someone of thousands. A mark up like that is simply and will be forever bullshit. If you can get it then more fool the buyer. I really think a 3.5 k profit is more like it. Not bad if you are going to sell. Your money went to a great cause and you will have 3.5 k in your back pocket. Where I come from thats a great months work. Cause thats what it is! Business. I dont judge people who sell. I do sometimes and I cannot be bothered to argue over a keyboard. Its a waste of time, but to promote such an increase is terrible. Greed. I like money, it makes the world go round and buys me beers with my mates, but that my friend is GREED. Not what the print stands for. SIMPLE GREED!

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by mammal2 on Jan 18, 2008 19:28:08 GMT 1, i hope it sold Vazie, because I would hate to see Banksy go the same way as Micallef, where lots of negativity resulted in his prices going south!!
I really hope his prices go wayyyyy south more for me. - This is nice greed, like having too many cocktails and waking up with two swedish girls (note:this has never happened to me) ;D

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by gozgoz on Jan 18, 2008 20:53:55 GMT 1, If i had a choice to choose which item from my trip to bethlehem i will keep for life to remind me of my trip, it would not be the Gold Flag but that piece of flyer that i took from SG which had Arabic writing on it and which got me into a strip search at Tel Aviv!!! aand the kaffiyah which i bought from bethlehem too. Priceless. In fact, ive already framed that darn darn darn flyer!

Banksy • Flag GOLD, by sausageboonwee on Jan 18, 2008 23:13:22 GMT 1, I think £4-5k, I can think of about 10 other cheaper Banksy prints that I would prefer to have on my wall first.
There aren't many colours I think I would want less on my wall than black and gold. It's the onyx ring of Banksy prints.
