Shepard Fairey - OBEY - The Sun, by raiden on Oct 9, 2009 21:09:02 GMT 1, Ugh. Really? Really? Worst ever - and I'm a collector, fan, and supporter of Shep.
On the vast subject of global warming, this is what he's releasing? I thought the fake newspaper was a cute idea for the girl shading herself poster, but to release this on its own... Misguided.
I've seen so much great art commenting on global warming - polar bears on fire, apocalyptic post impressionist stuff, even his original clean energy poster I thought was solid.
But this? In light of all the directions you could go with global warming? Certainly gives fuel to his critics.

Shepard Fairey - OBEY - The Sun, by Zippy on Oct 9, 2009 21:30:44 GMT 1, very, very poor. Why does he bother churning this crap out on a bi-weekly basis? He is obviously a talented artist but he is doing himself 'no favours' by releasing this drivel for the flippers. But then again, if he just got a new car and needs to pay for it then a quick release is ideal.

Shepard Fairey - OBEY - The Sun, by Daniel Silk on Oct 9, 2009 22:12:27 GMT 1, Can I ask that you dont use words such as "Crap" & "Shit" when describing artists work Its ok not to like it, but to use words like that crosses the line, and does not really show any respect to the Artist or other forum members who might like the art.
Thank you.

Good point boss.
However, as someone who is a shep' follower and buyer of some of his prints...
... this - IMO - is a low point.

Shepard Fairey - OBEY - The Sun, by kjzimm on Oct 9, 2009 22:42:03 GMT 1, I recently found out about this guy with the Obama print. I'm no fan of Obama, but I couldn't avoid the media attention to the AP photo. Since then, I found some of his art appealing and have even bought his work knowing it would support a cause I don't. But this work really kills any appreciation I may have had. This is as relevant to art as a lost dog notice tacked on a telephone pole.

That Zach De La Rocha print is not by Shepard Fairey. That is the work of Ernesto Yerena who used to work as Shepard's full time assistant. Ernesto is now dedicating more time to his own projects, and building a great name for himself on his own.

Not at all mate, I would feel I owe them the opinion, I am not a bedroom rebel, have no desire to change the world and if I did, well it wouldn't be the smartest thing in the world to start here would it?
The reason you post a, lets be honest, narky response, albeit light hearted, which by your own rules is actually out of order (not mine though), is because I am getting up your nose for simply stating that if you have an opinion you should state it.
Next time you're in London I will happily buy you a beer and explain fully why I think you over mother this forum at times, because I feel you could actually benefit from such a conversation. If shep is up for it, I'll buy him a beer and explain why I think this latest print is very poor.
Its an opinion and you and shep both have the right to tell me I am a t**t and you disagree with it, but to label me something I am not, well my friend you just showed yourself up a little when asking for people not to bully others, but I still love you

Shepard Fairey - OBEY - The Sun, by Gentle Mental on Oct 10, 2009 9:26:36 GMT 1, i think shep's still too deep in OBAMAnism...
what he was really incredibly good at, was the ANTI-anti ness of everything - OBEY be a drone - OBEY do what the BIG BROTHER says, OBEY THE GIANT - GOD IS GOOD (BAD). RELIGION IS GOOD (BAD). THE BOMB IS GOOD (BAD)
after obama, he's kinda gone the opposite ... OBEY FOR CHANGE, HOPE and PROGRESS and GREEN. WAR IS BAD. CHILDREN SHOULDn't carry RIFLES. MORE WINDMILLS.
think "Sunsets to die for" hits the note right when it comes to the environment...
this new one is so straight, yet so un-ironical, it's depressing.
it's like a poster a uni kid would put up to make a weak statement.
maybe he was bored with the old ways..but me thought the last one, STICKERS, was sooooo promising... of a return to form...
sigh..

Shepard Fairey - OBEY - The Sun, by craigf on Oct 10, 2009 9:58:40 GMT 1, Shep's work spans from "great" to "less appealling" I wonder if he released less frequently whether the standard would increase. I'm not a close follower, but find pricing of his work difficult to follow as some goes very cheaply and other pieces are much higher, but I don't know if the seller is a chancer or its a decent price for the piece in question
