Hi all,

since my trip to bristol this year I'm even more convinced my humble art collection needs a banksy.

A Banksy? Yes, a Banksy.


I have two very favourite images by our loved hero:

Girl with balloon and Love rat. I'm weak, I know.

Because I havent been in the market for any of these print before I can use some advise in buying these. What should I pay for these? Signed and unsigned please.. Money isnt there yet, but can be with me in the next month, although I think a signed one could be one bridge too far....

Nevertheless I'd like to see some thoughts about prices on these, signed and unsigned, just to give me an idea of what I should spend... Probably the queest will follow...

Gotta say I agree with you, in that I also think Love Rat's a CLASSIC Banksy and would love one on the wall!

I'd say about £700 for an unsigned LR sounds sensible, although I have a feeling that 1 or 2 may have gone for a little less recently. Signed is gonna be much tougher to find and may prove expensive. I wouldn't like to put a figure on it though, as I'm not aware of any recent sales as a guide.

700 as a net cash minimum now for US - these were 3-400 more a year ago - theres not many about, so will be interesting to see what one would go for in the open market - I know certian people have budgeted 900+ to get one ATM

signed - name your own price- not enough about to work out an average - £2500 +

Achtungbono's numbers sound about right for US as they were going for £1k - £1.1k not that long ago (I convinced my then girlfriend paying £900 odd was a great price) I think a signed would be more than £2.5k, but they don't come up that often

thanks guys. so have to get 1000 gbps for the US and find a good buyer (and maybe I will have some spare cash to buy a frame) and would have to tripple that for a signed one, sounds ok.

any ideas about the bearded dwarf?

/ sorry for the caplitalist response that follows, but as you are asking for numbers, rather than discussing the vagaries of the image itself, then this may be justified

these are pretty rare on the whole, despite a run of 600 in total IIRC ,as they are a non threatening/ non confrontational nice looking piece and thus have a wider audience.being a relatively early print, they have much more kudos - compare it to naplam - I have a naplam in a sleeve that I will unlikely frame as it is a bit of a blunt visual instrument rather than a nice little wall hanging to chat about when you have a dinner party

I would budget upto £2K for this US if you are serious ,as things are creeping up once again .Signed will be the seller can name their own price, but look for 3500+ , but likely much more

IM sure someone will come long and show one at a lower price sold of late, but its hard to guage the expected price levels due to low liquidity - Xmas is coming and with GBP interest rates bening effectively zero, many will be punting for an investment piece...

the GWB market was stone dead a year or two ago, when it emerged that it had been faked in numbers and many people found themselves with a bogus print ( case yet to be heard, so no speculating ! ).

As with any banksy, make sure its legit. Not all GWB owners have got a PC cert, but this isnt an issue if POW have checked it over and registered it in your name - People do pay more for a PC certified print - there is a premium to be paid for complete confidence in a print, especially if they are not 100% sure of the banksy market, but if you are intending to keep, rather than move on, it may be slightly cheaper to get one without the cert.

None of mine are PC cert, as it would have cost the same as buying another Banksy to do it to the colelction, but I was more than happy to take them to POW for checking and registration.POW are very good about this, despite there being alot of work involved for them & I can only appreciate the provision of this service for free

thanks for your great comment AB! I was just kiddin' about the bearded dwarf, it is a beautiful, innocent print.. but since I saw a very ugly tattoo of a Girl With Balloon (that much looked like a bearded dwarf) I can't stop making that link..

Love Rat's -
Unsigned have always hovered around the 1k mark usually slightly lower
Signed - at their high were 5k - low around 2750 - so i'd say somewhere inbetween -prob 3.5k + though hard to pinpoint
Girl With Balloon -
Unsigned's have always amazed me as the most expensive unsigned Banksy - constantly 2.5k ish + but yes beware
Signed - I doubt you'll even find one - but megabucks
