For overseas print shipping if the item is marked as "Return to Sender" or similar, basically making it clear that the print originated where it is going to then you should be OK to insure at full value and not get stung by customs. Obviously I don't guarantee this, but seems to work very well.

I have had several pm's from this joker. Glad I re-read this thread, not that I ever believed anything that was coming out of his vague and frankly laughable mouth.
Wanted to swap a number of my prints for a couple of unsigned classic Banksy's but kept on diverting the questions I was asking and alarm bells were ringing from the start.
The guy should be banned or at least forum members warned before the situation becomes more serious.

Apparently he had an amazing collection of Banksys that he was keen to swap....he was even going to throw in a signed note from the great man himself! Wow....I nearly shat my pants with excitement...

Funnily enough when asked for provenance, photos, receipts etc it all went strangely quiet, can't think why?

The thing that really bugs be about spunkstains like this is that he probably thinks that scamming people is some sort of a joke. As far as I'm concerned, its no better than coming round to my house, kicking the door in and helping himself to the family jewels.

Perhaps he should have paid more attention in school, then he wouldn't have to resort to common thievery.....

I hope that nobody has had the misfortune to get stung by one of his scams. It was the extra signed Banksy bits that set off my 'scumbag' radar. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true.

Perhaps he'd like to swap one of his mythical Banksy prints with a nice freshly minted turd. We could club together to have it float mounted (geddit?!) in a box frame with museum glass..... I've got one thats been kept in a smoke free house and stored in an acid free environment since it arrived 5 minutes ago...

ive had no probs with swaps or sales on this forum and ive done loads! i always get them to send ther print 1st or cash

you must have his addy if you have sent your print to him? you should of got him to send you a small amount of money by paypal so the 2 addys add up so if anything does go wrong i would be on a plane and burning his house down ;D

Same here, regarding my titifreak piece. I smoked him out when I offered to get one of my employees in Texas to meet him to do the exchange face to face in Dallas.

He then said he hadn't recieved emails not knowing that you can see both when people last visited the site as well as when they've read messages.

You'll have to get up a damn site earlier in the morning to catch me out. I was tempted to go ahead with the trade and send him an envelope full of asbestos...

The other scam - trading prints but when you get the tube it's empty, the sender will then say that the couriour has stolen the print inside!! be warned dont scrimp on the value of the goods you send, even if it costs more in the long run. I lost out on £800 for trying to avoid paying the full price, a while back now but I learnt my lesson.

TOP TIP - make sure you check inside the tube before signing for it, a pain I know but if you dont you have just signed to say that it's recieved in good condition, if it's heavily wrapped sign for it but anotate "contents not checked"

Make sure if you do trade that you get the tracking number from the sender, then you will have a good idea what service they have used. I've sent and recieved a few prints to the many countries and its madness as most of the transactions have been based on trust. Thats a big trust when you taking

;D ;D ;D That's what I was thinking... they look like your typical hipster from the Inland Empire, Affliction wearing, douche bags that I run into all too often living in Newport Beach... They seem to live here in the summer when it gets above 110 and it always makes for an interesting session when the surf gets up on 32nd St... locals have yet to lose, by the way...

That said, I hope that there's still a 'lil trust for those of us on the other side of the pond... I've been in the game for while, and it really comes down to intuition and trust. You know in your heart of hearts if it's a solid deal... I've dealt with quite a few members here on Banksy (more buying than selling, with a few gifts sent from the US as well) and all I can say is that this is truly a great community that seems to be VERY pro-active in taking "shady" members to task and making everyone aware if, where and when the jig is up... That's pretty cool in my book...

amsterdam - you are right, there are many members on here that are legit - it's tough being in the U.S (as I am as well) but a list of references and gut feeling is the only way to go. With that said I've done deals with many on here and havent had one problem yet (knocking on wood)

I know what you mean Wiz, you are a true gent.

But in my experience most people understand the importance of references, especially when we are talking highvalue pieces which of course is relative, but goes for alot of the work being traded on this site.

I sometimes offer people references myself.

Could a thread not be set up, in which people can say who they have had successful dealings with.
I as yet havn't had the misfortune of being scammed or not receiving a print from someone, I've bought 2 or 3 small pieces on here and the people I have dealt with have been nothing but great to deal with, but if there was somewhere people could check to see any references if any alarm bells do start ringing, would be great and make the forum a much better place to deal in

How has knowhope1 not been banned?

Members have been banned for expressing an opinion yet a member tries to rip people of and nothing seems to get done.

How is that right?
