Hutch ๐ฌ๐ง Brighton Street Artist โข Stencil Art โข For Sale, by corblimeylimey on May 30, 2007 20:19:11 GMT 1, I think Silky is reflecting the thoughts of many.
POW may have been the first and most important, they have Banksy and Micaleff, but now artists like D Face, Eelus, Invader, Dolk, Faile etc either deal direct or through another printer/gallery.
POW now have more competition than ever, new artists like Copyright, Hutch, Ripper, Xenz etc have never dealt with POW.
SOS, BRP, HMP, Let Them Hang & soon hopefully Stella Dore are all taking larger slices of the cake.
To say POW pisses over the rest of em combined, is bollocks IMO, I think if POW didn't have their two big stars they wouldn't even be in the top 3.

The new up and coming talent and creative energy presenting its self on this forum is really refreshing. The prices have become very reasonable from the new competition and we actually have lots more great art by people that have got something to say but also can create a really damn pleasant picture that brightens up the room as well as the soul. New competition, bring it on !

And i'd say you don't really know what you're talking about CB
BANKSY, FAILE, INVADER, MICALLEF, EINE, SHRIGLEY, DONWOOD, HEWLETT, BAST, WALKER, ZEVS, VAUCHER, BLU and on it goes.. legends one and all, they've helped turn the art world on it's head and will continue to do so.... Beautiful losers.. probably the most important art show of the 21st century.
Faile and invader have always sold through their own sites as as walker, eelus and dface. And the price hike is down to other galleries selling at vastly increased prices compared to POW. Of course some are gonna go to BRP and sell at 350 as opposed to 50 quid at POW. But show me one other gallery that would say they'd flog a Banksy for 100 quid at Xmas and I'll show you a liar
Every artists you site would give their left arm to be on POW's list and each of them hold them in very high regard.. it's the premiere league v's the red lion sunday kick about. No contest really.
Like I said earlier, if you're looking for pretty pictures of butterflies, roller skating chicks and babes in bikini's, then fine. But if you want a peice of art that not only reflects but also creates the world we live in, produced by someone with the touch, integrity, poetry and skill of an artist and craftsman. Then POW it is. Keep in mind it's not just the print you're buying, it's all it represents, and like the work or not, POW represents the best there is. Simple really.
cheers

Is that really true?
If so, it is absolutely ridiculous. For an excellent source of information (one that should actually be promoted) to be censored just bewilders me.
What exactly is the reason for this? Does someone feel threatened? Can such censorship be justified, sincerely and without disingenuousness, as being in the interest of Forum members? I think not.
I would be curious to know the age of the person who took this decision. Embarrassing, and truly shameful. We are desperately in need of some maturity here.

Hutch ๐ฌ๐ง Brighton Street Artist โข Stencil Art โข For Sale, by BK83 on May 31, 2007 6:47:57 GMT 1, Nu, I really respect your comments with regards to anything and everything art related -- and especially on this forum! but lets be honest -- as much as POW are and have been the leaders in this industry to date they really are not living up to it lately. That's the honest reality -- customer service is way down, delivery service is way down, recent print release problems with regards to Banksy, the list goes on. I think the reality is that the smaller print houses (as CBL has already mentioned) are really proving themselves with quality artists at great prices and with quality service and printmaking.
Ive said it before and I'll say it again. POW now are like Jordan when he came out of retirement -- classic, but just not up to standard of today's players.

No offence taken, i'm always up for a good honest debate.. but I was discussing art and not the service industry I don't care how it arrives or how long it takes to get here..they always sort it out.. it's a lot safer than ebay
These talented newcomers everybody keeps mentioning..by all means support them. I do.. Beejoir, Mantis, Dolk, Sixten,Pรธbel have all been around a good while and proved themselves on thew street for years before crossing over to print/canvas..but who are the others who are currently making prints ? very few and far between..

Bottom line though is when the next Banksy release comes out on PoW there will be thousands of people scrambling to log into their site. And this is why they still sit at the top of the pile. Then there is Micallef and several others that Nu has already mentioned. Don't get me wrong, BRP, SOS and a few others are a breath of fresh air, but if you are a collector of Banksy or Micallef and don't have a huge amount to blow, then it has to be PoW as number 1.

Hutch ๐ฌ๐ง Brighton Street Artist โข Stencil Art โข For Sale, by irf2112 on May 31, 2007 10:26:26 GMT 1, I'm with Nu totally on this one. The forum seems to be a little muddled at the moment. I find it strange BRP are pushed away under 'Whats new at the galleries' whilst other 'new' artists are at the front.
My ranking of the top galleries/artists with their own sections on this forum
1. POW & Laz (Banksy need i say more) 2. BRP & TLSG 3. HMP =3. Souled Out Studios 5. Let them Hang
Stella Dore not trading yet but would probably hit the list after Souled out (or maybe go above them)
The rest havent really proved themselves on the street or elsewhere for me (yet). I'm not knocking the 'new blood' but thats how it stands by me at the mo'.

Granted BRP has the quality and Souled Out is absolute class from the prints to the service.
The market is expanding, there is plenty of room, POW don't need to watch their backs, if anything they're in a stronger position now than a year or so ago

Hutch ๐ฌ๐ง Brighton Street Artist โข Stencil Art โข For Sale, by corblimeylimey on May 31, 2007 11:02:01 GMT 1, Nu, you're having a go at Silkys supposed bias and it sounds as though you work for or have a financial interest in POW
I'm not saying that POW aren't important, I do reconise how much they've done, and their two VERY important artists, with Banksy of course being way ahead of everyone else IMO.
What I'm saying is things are now different, they've got a LOT of competition, good competition too, SOS & BRP alone have achieved so much in such a short time, in that same time POW have almost stood still. They're losing business to competion fast, they're lucky that lots of people seem to buy stuff from POW that if were sold by someone else wouldn't sell, Beautiful Losers being a case in point.
How many prints do you own Nu by some of the names you've mentioned? SHRIGLEY, DONWOOD, HEWLETT, BAST, ZEVS, VAUCHER, BLU, for me, none by anyone in this list.
POW used to be the leader, not too hard when you're the only one in the game, even if they make more sales than anyone else (and that certainly wouldn't be the case if it weren't for Banksy) the others put together surely out sell POW (or "piss over" as you put it ;D )
IMO POW are fast becoming a two trick pony, if they didn't have Banksy & Micaleff they'd be in trouble. As for the ยฃ100 Banksy charity print, we know Banksy dictates the price of his prints and I'm sure Banksy called the shots on the charity print too, and if SOS had Banksy they'd do the same (I'm not a liar )
I'm not belittling POW, they are still important and without them and Banksy we wouldn't be where we are now, I'm just pointing out what I think is obvious.
