I haven't recieved mine yet.. these are all pictures from EB (Expresso beans). I expect mine will show up tomorrow. I will let say for sure whether they are silkscreens. From what people have been saying about them stinking like their other Obey prints they are more than likely silkscreens.

Shepard Fairey George Orwell Prints/ books, by matbat on Nov 25, 2008 20:24:44 GMT 1, Hi,
I received mine today. These are definitely not screen prints. I have showed these to my neighbour who is a screenprinter by trade (onto leather). There are 4 main signs.
Firstly the image runs right up to the edge of the paper. This is not possible with screens.
Secondly, if you look from the side of the print the application of each colour may have very slight raised appearance. This is not true of these.
Thirdly, more often than not beacause screen printing is operated by a human there can be very subtle offsets in the positioning each colour. This is not apparent at all on these.
And to top it all off there are alot of colours going on here and would be quite a complicated achievement for a screenprint.
These are 100% offset lithos.
If you are not happy about this, as i am not then PM your email and i shall include you on an email to Penguin.
I do wish to keep the prints but we are due compensation of some kind as these were sold as screenprints which have the added value of being created by hand. Offsets lithos do not.
Thanks,
matt

When you buy from the internet it is imperative that the wording is correct.
If you buy a 8gb memory stick and when you receive it and its 4gb what do you do.
I dont have 100 which is what i payed for something my laser jet could do.
thanks,
matt

Definitely a book company not a print company. Still I doubt they'll have spare so I'll just have to make do, at least you can't tell from the front.

Shepard Fairey George Orwell Prints/ books, by matbat on Nov 25, 2008 22:48:40 GMT 1, You are right my Laser jet cant sign and number but thats not my point.
Screenprinting is an Artform. It takes time. No 2 are identical.
Regardless of what you say Ross i dont write pointless posts. It is important to me that Penguin realise that they have wrongly sold Lithograph under the guise of Screenprints.
There is a big difference and i suggest you learn a bit about it.
Ask Ben Eine here bens1977@mac.com. He will tell you all about screenprinting vs Lithos.

And matbat you can get screenprinted posters with ink all the way up to the edge, a decent printer will not make colour registration mistakes on the print and not all screenprinting ink has a raised profile.
But all that aside they aint screenprints But as I said in a previous post these particular prints benefit from not being screen printed

Considering you don't know the difference between a silkscreen and a offset and need to ask your neighbor it really shouldn't matter what they are.

Shepard Fairey George Orwell Prints/ books, by matbat on Nov 25, 2008 23:38:01 GMT 1, Thanks for calling me a muppet.
I cant believe the grief i get for stating on a forum that i was sold something different to that which was advertised.
Im not a muppet PRINTGURU. Yeah so i asked my friend some advice. Big fucking deal. I wanted to know if i got what i paid for.
If your a print guru surely you can understand the craftmanship behind a screenprint. Why do POW generally sell Screenprints?
Er, in my ltd knowledge its because you get a one off. Each one is different. A piece of art.
Not a photocopy. And thats the point i will be making to Penguin.
And dont give me that shit about penguin not being an Art printers. They would probably have bought these off Shep or had some third Party run them off. Strangely enough isnt that what POW used to do.
By the way i dig your stuff stickee.

My point is since you really don't know what you're talking about I don't see why it should bother you.

Shepard Fairey George Orwell Prints/ books, by stickee on Nov 26, 2008 3:16:24 GMT 1, chillout guys its only paper!
I can see both of your points on this but lets look at it from another angle would there be people moaning if these were indeed screenprints and they looked not a lot like the preview pics (which they would not of done unless the were 20 layer high end jobbies )
Matbat has a valid point that he was missold an item and I think a lot of people are a bit pissed off (including me that not only was the item badly described ( for better or for worse if it was actually a screenprint) but to lay the boot in the second you open the box you spot the bashed up books and then you pull out the tube with no Kraft paper or endcaps and then you pull out the prints and see the rolling creases and then!!! finally they are not even screenprints....phew!
So to summarise why people are probably crying about the printing technique is cos they were charged twice the price of regular Obey screenprints and then throw in shoddy packaging that comes over a week later than stated on the website and get damaged litho/inkjet/digital/giclee prints people have a right to find extra excuses to vent thier anger and kick that stupid penguin into touch.
Peace
and printguru there is no need to talk down to people on forums because of your superior knowledge
So he went and asked a neighbour for advice? thats good rather than just coming on here and pretending he knew what he was talking about no? not everyone is born a guru.....some people have to ask a neighbour

Shepard Fairey George Orwell Prints/ books, by pezlow on Nov 26, 2008 10:48:54 GMT 1, I had a good look at mine last night and I think they are offset lithos. I've got lots of shep screenprints and these don't have the same look and feel as the screenprints.
To answer Afroken's point my suspicion is that these are part of a larger unsigned run of posters to publicise the new book covers. This is just a theory on my part but it does seem unlikely that they would do a run of just 200 offset lithos as the cost would be disproportionate. They don't look like giclees either.

Shepard Fairey George Orwell Prints/ books, by Pattycakes on Nov 26, 2008 11:22:41 GMT 1, Morning Pez,
I think you're absolutely right, they are most likely part of a much larger edition to use as publicity within UK stores.
Allow me to clarify my position with Mat's statements, I think that complaining about the technique is ridiculous if you're A. Getting an absolute bargain for two signed prints. and B. Clearly complaining because the aftersale flipping value is affected by them not being screenprints.
If they arrived badly packed and damaged, that's one thing, and of course one should complain. If you're going to hang them on your wall and are pissed that they are offset-lithographs rather than screenprinted then you're whingeing about something that should be totally irellevant to you.
