I think, just like the murals, this is a warm up for the main event (perhaps a ghetto) on either Saturday 11.1 (the day after the pet shop closes) or Monday, December 1st. given what's legible on the rat posted just above.

Banksy • The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by Guest on Oct 9, 2008 17:19:33 GMT 1, So, I'm either reading too much into this, throwing myself a nice curve ball sitting here, or doing a decent job playing detective. the pet store runs until 10.31 with supposedly nothing for sale. Looking at the rat on the left below i'm guessing that when that mural is finished it will read Saturday, November 1st at 8pm. Perhaps that is when a wharehouse show kicks off? Could be December 1st and the location of the ghetto 08??
I would say the 2 images speak for themselves the grey ghost going over graffiti and Banksy going over advertising.

If that's the case what a brilliant piece of marketing. Banksy never ceases to amaze me!

It was in another thread - a link to Sabeths flickr - that shows the progress of the big rats flickr.com/photos/sabeth718/2924938023/
in this one you can still see the date underneath the white and it Says Tuesday 8pm October 1st it could be left over from what was there before and maybe Mr B had half of it left soz he is planning something on Noverber 1st or December 1st - but it didn't say that originally - or I imagine if you get close enough
but lets keep the conspiracy alive - so far so good

Now that would be something if he is actually using NY (the marketing capital of the world) to spread the news of a Ghetto show in New Orleans in December. If it is 12.1 instead of 11.1, I'll be able to fly to either location no problem and finally witness one of these in person.

Banksy • The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by Wearology on Oct 9, 2008 17:45:45 GMT 1, I was being interviewed by a newspaper from England at the show - I told them that I was here because I heard about the show on our forum - after my interview was over a representative from Pest Control came over and asked me a lot of questions about our forum - It seems that they are aware of our opinions are appreciative that we did not embrace the Vermin verification system. There were a few familiar faces at the show and once I blurted out the name WIZBONG some guy yelled to me are you from the forum and than we chatted for a bit. A guy from the forum named George flew over from England for the show as well. If anyone has specific questions about the exhibit please do not hesitate to send me a PM - I do have some extra business cards from the show that they were giving out if anyone wants to make a trade - I will not sell them so please don't ask - thanks , Jon

SG08 has to be in NOLA..why else would their be a grey ghost piece in NY ?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if nothing else, what is most exciting about this show is that he clearly demonstrates his diversity of artistic endeavours.

Would they really hang out in NYC for 3 months for Santa's Ghetto? Doubt it.

Banksy • The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by ricosg11 on Oct 9, 2008 18:37:03 GMT 1, Just got back. Great experience. Great people workin there. The show is great but I think the best part of it is sitting outside for a half hour or an hour and just watching the people of NY. There is such a range of responses to the installation. Anger, laughs, contemplation. Lots of children enjoying the art which is also great to see. They said there is no other show happening and if this is it....I am satisfied. Shows some great progression from stencils and screenprints.
Best part was some bitch dropping any laz employee name she could think of and asking over and over what was for sale. While she "shopped" for her wealthy russian "collectors."

Banksy • The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by etienne07 on Oct 9, 2008 18:42:09 GMT 1, This is the first time Banksy has used animatronics, and the effect is absolutely amazing. A clear departure form last year's behemoth show in Los Angeles, Banksy's first ever show in New York City (all the others have been fakes) is being held in a tiny storefront that's less than 300 square feet and can't hold more than 20 people at any one time.
One of our favorite things about what Banksy has done is that the entire show is completely visible to the public both day and night through the store front windows. And unless you're a hard core Banksy fan, or until someone like us tells you, it's absolutely impossible to know that the work has been done by Banksy. There are no paintings or graffiti in the entire space.
