Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by alsbabar on Jun 6, 2008 18:39:13 GMT 1, heres a point of context - Β£3950 - Miss Bugs Inkjet print on canvas Β£3000 - Sage Vaughn Canvas from Jam (member on here) Β£2000 - Dale Grimshaw originals from Signal Β£4000 - Banksy signed print or two (trolley hunters and Morons Sepia) Β£3000 - Guy Denning original canvas from Red Propellor Β£4000 - 4 x Blu Sketchbook originals Alsabar - it's getting boring.... Those of us that bought something preferred it to the pieces you describe and decided it was worth the money. You don't. Well, so what? That's the beauty of opinions and why we don't all have the same art on our walls...
Firstly get my name right - I dont misquote peoples names, so show the same courtesy, secondly its not boring in my opinion, I am not blinded to rush in to buy an artist who is overhyped and overpriced, to believe that Miss Bugs is the next big thing.
Lets put things into perspective even more, it is right to say that Miss Bugs trend started on this forum, priced right and they became popular, now what they are doing is sticking two fingers up to serious collectors. I blame Art Republic for this fiasco, yes while they might have been sold out, the bigger question is, who bought them?
My father would say, A fool and his money are easily parted!!

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by bored with screen names on Jun 6, 2008 19:04:19 GMT 1, Oh yeah, when speaking with Lindsay at ink-d, I was told there were still some of the eye charts available.
Apparently they were Miss Bugs' favorite pieces at the show! Not a fan personally though so I passed.

With respect I think this is a little harsh. If people bought to make a quick buck, maybe so. But if people bought what they liked, then not so. As seems aparent from this thread some people really like MB's work. Some not. So those that bought something they really want for a price they could afford are happy - nothing flushed or clogged. Imho, of course.

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by felix on Jun 6, 2008 20:07:16 GMT 1, I think if it all sold then it was priced right. If it was any lower it would be a flippers delight, if it was any higher then it wouldn't of sold.
Not my personal taste and I can think of alot better things to spend my money on, but if you can afford to buy and you like the work - then that is what its all about. I think it's better the money has gone to the artists than flippers.
Saying that though, I think it is a disgraceful amount of money for a relatively new artist to charge - but then again it stops flipping. You can't win.

Genius!
I think people who love the work & are happy paying x amount have purchased thats fair enough but anyone who has paid top prices to 'flip' any pieces may get stung a little.

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by romanywg on Jun 6, 2008 20:35:51 GMT 1, I know the artists are completely different but Word To Mother recently had his first solo show too and that was priced top end large pieces for under Β£2000. All sold out before the preview and havn't seen any on ebay. It is all down to the hype of certain artists. Remember Dan Baldwin? Don't let it happen to Hush and MB by too much hype, it doesn't help the artists in the long run. IMO.

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by Coach on Jun 6, 2008 20:38:10 GMT 1, Again, I agree, but there havn't been too many MB's on ebay so far. Compare the Walker show, when shed loads of prints were on ebay within 24 hours. Early doors tho', I have to admit.

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by Harveyn on Jun 6, 2008 20:43:46 GMT 1, I have to agree JG.
Love MBs work and think this show had some stand out pieces. That said I think they got the price bracket slightly wrong. Personally I don't agree that because it sold out that the price point was right. It was right for the gallery but was it right for the artist.
To the fans who bought what they like because they are going to hang it on their walls I am chuffed.
Paul - Loved your choice.

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by felix on Jun 6, 2008 20:45:11 GMT 1, Agree Romanywg, high prices leave a bad taste in peoples mouths. Especially when we are the ones feeding their mouths.
Sorry that if that doesn't make sense.

Spot on Felix (and Coach). The only part that might not be correct is the bit I hilighted, as we'll never now! I would tend to agree, but I probably would have guessed the actual prices used would've taken longer to sell too, so what do I know?
One thing I do know is, there were a few pieces there I would have loved on our wall and I was half expecting to be able to TRY for an OG from the show, before seeing the pricelist. I'm slightly disappointed the art wasn't a bit more accessable (for some of us), being their first show and all. BUT as you rightly state, it's always better the cash going to the artists that people who have zero liking for the work and buy it to extort the market.

Interesting point...although the prints from the show will not be sent out for a little while, so its really hard to judge if its become a flip free zone.
Matching numbers went to people who purchased originals and the first 10 to Q - so again, you would not expect that many to go onto the secondary market too early - although the price could be used to mop up the high original costs?
Add that to the MB policy of "flip and we won't sell to you again" - this could do the trick (after all - only about 3 Lego Monster of spins have been ebayed so far).
Lets wait and see.......

Hey Dogent, you are right, lets wait and see. I might be completely wrong, and if so, will hold my hands up. But... not having prints in hand has not stopped flippers in the past - how often have we read that print will be sent when recieved from the gallery (or more often, pow)?

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 6, 2008 23:07:52 GMT 1, In case no-one's noticed a set is already up on ebay! I'm sure other show-prints will go that way too! People were free to give mobile numbers and whatever names they wanted and pay cash. So again, for on site buyers, I don't think the anti-flip deterant exists if they went to flip and are a little savvy.
