How long does this normally take?

I emailed 3-4 weeks ago and got an instant reply along the lines of, 'Sure - send me the print number'. So I did and heard nothing back for 2 weeks. So I emailed again saying 'sorry to hassle is there any chance I could have it', but no reply for another few days, so I emailed again and still no reply. A couple of days later I emailed again asking if it was possible to get a copy of the invoice and got an instant reply saying 'nope, can only confirm the registered owner via email' so I replied 'thanks, can I have that confirmation then please?' to be greeted with a couple more days of silence.

Is this normal?

I'm under no illusion that this isn't a great service they provide, which they dont really have to and so may take a while but it's a tad frustrating getting the intermittent replies instantly and the stuff I really need seemingly falling on deaf ears.

If you give them the print name, print number, and the registered owners name, they can usually confirm this in a couple of days, in my experience.

and thats exactly the info i give them, try e-mailing Dora direct should be no more than a week at the most

Aye, it's one I own myself but didn't cross my mind 3 years back to keep a receipt/invoice for a £35 poster for the wall. Things have obviously changed a bit now though and was hoping to get rid of it to fund another purchase.

I have a standard email I always send to POW when asking for prov confirmation. I find if you give them the info they need (and as much of it as you have) in a nice bite-sized chunk, then you usually get a fairly swift reply. I've only ever received a reply following completion of payment (which I then took a risk on where I expected POW were overrun with other issues such as SG or whatever) a couple of times, usually it's very quick. It goes:


Hi Dora

I'm in the process of purchasing the following print and need you to confirm the provenance prior to completing payment :

Banksy - Grannies (unsigned), number XXX / 500

Registered to: XXX XXXXX

Address: (the address the purchaser was living at when they bought the print, if I know it or can get it from the seller)

Look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks.

I just change the print details as required. Simple as that - works a treat.

Yeah same position I am in (and others), never occured to me to keep anything to do with the purchase of what I thought was a glorified poster!

I had a print recently authenticated and as I needed a quick response called.

Spoke with Andy who basically said that Dora was snowed under and redirecting all 'Prov' emails to him ([e-mail]).

Now he's not in everyday, but that's the juice I got and he got back to me within a few days and Dora a few days after that (as I had mailed her first).

Worth a try.
