Depressing right?, by endfieldta on Apr 7, 2007 15:00:06 GMT 1, So I just bought my first Banksy print, Morons, during the auction. I also bought a beautiful losers print. Anyhow, I'd heard of Banksy for a few years and on a whim bought a book he'd put out. After discovering POW and signing up for the mailing list, I became pretty excited when I heard about the morons auction. I ended up getting an unsigned one, during the night actually, and I also picked up the Beautiful Losers print during the day. This post is about what's happened after though.
Discovering this board and the ebay activity has taken any joy out of these purchases. I find myself drinking about five cups of coffee and nervously checking auction prices and wanting to shoot myself for not spending money I didn't have on the signed one or the sepia, which was still available. I also feel like an asshole for buying the Beautiful Losers print. Since according to most it was a waste of money. I also realized I don't have a very good chance of getting a Antony M.
So now I'm going to wait until the prints arrive and try to forget about all of this that has happened since. I'd like to have some joy left when I get them up on the walls. After all, I liked the prints when I bought them. It's just this whole game afterwards that has me second guessing myself. In the meantime, I'm going to try to find some other small print shops. Can anyone suggest anything?

if you dont was the Losers print, or you cant afford it, simply contact PoW. But, if you like the image you should be happy. If you feel bad about it, get your cash back. Couldnt you have bought one signed banksy instead of the BL and the unsigned?
As for smaller print shops, check out the 50GBP thread. Some great pics and pieces there. here: banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1175270939&page=5

Let's just try and forget the snipers, carpetbaggers, ebayers whatever you want to call them. We know they exist and can't do anything about them. They are the barometer that lets most punters know how much their art is worth. On the plus side there are some great threads here. Try this one for starters banksyforum.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1175270939 Some great prints and most for under £50. Ain't gonna make you money, but then that's not the point is it.

Its wonderful that you got a morons print, I'm sure that it will look great framed up (make sure that you post some pictures in the album). Don't worry about ebay prices either- if you bought the print to keep then its resale value doesn't really matter - it will never be worth less than you paid for it in any case. As for other print sites, there are hundreds- check out the £50 thread for ideas!

cool. and if you were "obsessed" with th eprint as a kid, you should be happy with the image. Some people bought simply to flip. You didn't. A lot of the comments were about ppl snapping up the prints and not having thought about. you did.

Depressing right?, by Joe J on Apr 7, 2007 23:19:12 GMT 1, I tried for the Henry Calfant too but sadly missed out... and to rub salt into the wounds, I then bidded on one on ebay and i missed that too. Bugger, It went for around 260GBP, lots of crazy bidders in the last minute. I was and still very much am addicted to the Dondi Futura stuff. I got a Morons though, its un-signed and thats simply enough for me. Its my first Banksy and I'm bloody chuffed with it. My next one I'll go for a signed. Bring it on! I've been watching the crazy ebay hype at the moment on the Mornons. Makes me feel proud I was able to get one. I have the perfect spot on the wall next to my film editing desk for it.
Now its time to check out the bits and pieces threads some of you guys suggested... under 50GBP you say... Well that converts nicely to the weaker Aussie dollar... (To bad the aussie dollar isn't like our cricket team, sometimes alittle stronger)
Thanks in advance guys for pointing out the thread too.
Peace.

Considerably better than the ebay auction you described. Hope this helps.

Depressing right?, by BK83 on Apr 8, 2007 1:24:16 GMT 1, Hi Endfield, welcome to the forum! I am confused with your post? First off, let me say congrats on your first purchase of the Morons print, but why are you nervously checking the ebay auction sites -- you seem to be a fan of Banksy, why would you be interested in its immediate re-sale value?

Depressing right?, by endfieldta on Apr 8, 2007 2:04:23 GMT 1, No no, please don't get me wrong. The email was a response to my initial impression after discovering this site. The emphasis just seemed to be on ebay leading me to the ebay investigation. I just pulled the trigger a bit too quick because all of a sudden I felt like I was a pawn in some sort of hoax. I think it was some post regarding the beautiful losers stuff being coupled with the banksy print just to dump them. I then discovered the site I posted above selling them at less than the value on POW. I'm thrilled to get the prints as well as read all the posts above. I just got a bit nervous about being scammed as I'm new to collecting.
You'll see the prints on my walls. Not on ebay. I'll send pics once they are up.

Depressing right?, by dkla on Apr 8, 2007 2:09:13 GMT 1, You are correct. Not to throw salt in anybody's wounds, but yes, those prints were considerably cheaper at Iconoclast right before they went up for sale on POW. They went for either $100 or $150 a piece. That said, they're still very much worth the prices they're currently offered at (Todd James REAS "Bullies" print for $250 is a score). And there are still some steals as well. (Check out the Chris Johansen -- another Deitch Projects artist -- for only $150 -- ridiculous! That Rostarr is nice, too - especially for $150...)

Not sure about that Mose. Most of my vinyl went stateside and the postage cost was a fraction of what Iconclast are asking.

at least i'm not alone, i spent a good few years on all three books, trying to find my own interpretations on what i was seeing to little if any creative response. that why i've left it up to those with talent to create the work that i aspire to and respect in equal measure.
i often find myself having a flick through the books every now and again, it seems to me there is some work out there that is absolutely timeless. there is some work in there by artists that i would consider selling my banksy's for. not for long though

A well-packed large print, shipped flat, is about $50.00 from the US to Great Britain(3-5 day shipping time). Add in packaging cost, handling, and add-ons like insurance and signature and it really is pretty close. They are definitely not gouging.
A comparison, Eyestorm charged me 80-90 USD to ship 21st Century Love flat.
