Want to Buy- A nice chair and a watch!, by craigf on Oct 26, 2008 20:56:43 GMT 1, Not very art related, but there are a number of ppl on the forum who are into interior design and watches:
Chair - Before my pc died of a virus I had a link to a website that sold chairs and other furniture with a bit of a twist. From memory a member here had an old fashioned chair in black with grey and white union jack upholstery from this place. The chair is to sit on the landing partly to look good, partly to have somewhere to sit and enjoy the art on the wall.
Watch - There was a bit of discussion on another thread the other day and I have decided to take the plunge, but have not decided what to buy yet. I am looking for something that can be worn everyday if wanted and hopefully I won't get bored of it too quickly! At the moment I have been considering a Rolex Submariner or a Panerai (although I don't really know much about Panerai's and need to try one on to get a real feel as to how they look). I don't want something overly "bling", it's for me to enjoy rather than others to be impressed with. Also if anyone can recommend somewhere to buy nearly new from I am happy with buying a now impoverished banker / stock brokers
Thanks ;D

Want to Buy- A nice chair and a watch!, by craigf on Oct 26, 2008 21:27:03 GMT 1, Wow! I'm sure the answer is no, but any chance I can buy your Simpsons watch from you? I think it hits the nail on the head as far as the professional image I am looking to portray

Want to Buy- A nice chair and a watch!, by Standard on Oct 26, 2008 21:36:35 GMT 1, Great website on the furniture, I have been looking for something along the same lines.
as far as watches go......I picked up a Longines from watchfinder.co.uk last year, very good service and good rates on some watches, used and new. Although they often source their watches from overseas. My daily is now an Omega Aqua Terra Seamaster, preferred this over the Rolex in my price range at the time (I couldn't afford a submariner or the GMT). Panerai's are a bit too premiership (imo) , if you know what I mean!

Submariner is my definite fall back, but I have just changed jobs as my last boss was the most useless git you have ever met and he had one. I have a horrible feeling that buying one may bring back bad memories!
This is what I would really like, but it's at least twice the most I could see me spending!

Want to Buy- A nice chair and a watch!, by Standard on Oct 26, 2008 22:44:34 GMT 1, Nice PP.... The one thing I will say is go and try them on. I looked at loads of watches on websites and really liked them and also found some I didn't, only to go into shops and try them on and completely change my mind. It really does make a difference. One example is the Omega Speedies, didn't like them at all but after trying one on I didn't want to give it back, same goes for a 18k Cartier Tank F', hated Cartier's, but tried this beauty on and my love for silver watches started to fade (ยฃ13k though)!

The Men in Black as in The Stranglers or Will Smith et al. This ones definitely too bling for me, but I'll keep an eye out for a more reserved one?

Want to Buy- A nice chair and a watch!, by funster on Oct 26, 2008 23:19:51 GMT 1, My watch collection has recently increased to include a Tag Carrera and my first Paneri that I'm picking up from London next week. Absolutely love the Tag. Apart from that I've got the Omega Speedmaster - the first watch on the moon and an absolute classic (an original 70's model) - would never wear it though but was on my grandfathers wrist for 30 years and is very special to me.

Want to Buy- A nice chair and a watch!, by njr911 on Oct 27, 2008 12:47:25 GMT 1, You really can't go wrong with the Rolex Sub, an absolute classic and should hold it's value well.
Same cannot be said of most other brands.
Omegas can be picked up very cheaply second hand.
Pannys are nice but weren;t very well know until a few years ago when one of the big firms bought the name and started making them again. They are flavor of the month at the moment. Nice watches though
